Jump Start, or restart 16S BMS

I have a 48v lifepo4 bank with two 75 aHr batteries wired parallel to a Growatt inverter (3000 ES). They each have a 60A Xiaoxiang BMS. I mistakenly left my EV plugged in too long. I'm assuming the BMS shut down the system. The Growatt shut down and now the battery won't take a charge. I...

    Parallel 48v battery method...

I've got two 48v 75 aHr batteries that I am going to wire in parallel to a Growatt 3000ES. Which is the preferred method, or does it not make any difference? A - run Pos and Neg of each battery to two bussbars (+ and -) and then a single wire from bussbars to breaker and then Growatt B - run...

    Top balancing power supply question

I'm wondering about top balancing duration. I've paralleled 16 lifepo4 75ahr batteries and have been attempting to top balance them. They seem to be stuck at 3.34v. They are currently at 3.34v after sitting off the charger for 12 hours (wasn't around to monitor the charger today). The power...

Longwei PS diode caputs, can i bypass?

Not paying attention when wiring for balancing. POS and NEG wires backwards and the diode went pop. I'd really like to "fix" this and not wait a week to get a new PS. Can I bypass the diode to finish top balancing? OK to tell me this is stupid!

How would you approach this 150ahr LiFePo4 build?

Edited title to correct battery type... I'm building a 48v 150ahr LiFePo4 bank with 75aHr Eve cells. I have two 60a, 16S BMSs. My concern is mostly weight as it will be living in a small, somewhat confined area. Would you build two 16S 75ahr batteries, each with its own 60a bms and parallel...

    Breaker/fuse size question

I'm building two 48v 75 aHr LiFePo4 batteries that I will wire in parallel to a Growatt 3000ES hybrid inverter. I'm using 18" (one way) of 4awg. I'm trying to size a breaker/fuse just downstream of the battery bank. I'm confused by the calculations for determining fuse size. I will pull no...

    Series confusion

Help please! I thought I had a grasp of series and parallel wiring of panels. Here's my panels. Six total panels in 3S2P. Just three panels are wired together 3S in this group. Voltage makes sense... 118v Amps should be around 6a to 7a in full sun. But, it is reading 18. Why is it...

"Not Grid Tied" label for service entrance.

In the event of an emergency I want to alert emergency services/utility workers that the solar array that they see when approaching my property is NOT grid tied. Does anyone know of a label available to display next to my service entrance to communicate this? Or do you know what wording I...

BMS for my DIY battery bank

I'm building two 48v 75aHr Lifepo4 batteries and intend to use them with the Growatt SPF 3000TL LVM-48P or the Growatt SPF 3000TL LVM ES-48P. They both have 80amp max MPPT controllers. If I won't be pulling over 15a @ 120v from the Growatt am I ok with a 60 amp BMS on each battery (two...

Battery aHr needs for Level 1 EV charger?

I'll ask my question first and give details of what I'm doing after.. I have my panels, charge controller, sine wave inverter and location picked out. I am having trouble calculating a battery aHr capacity. If I want to have capability to charge 3 kW per day what size battery would I need to...

Top balancing 32650 (flat top) question

I'm building a 4S4P 24 aHr pack using 32650 and their plastic holders. My question... I was going to weld the nickel strip across the ends for a 16p bank for top balancing. So when I achieve a top balanced pack how do I reconfigure for 4S4P without ripping the nickel straps off the cells...

What Epever charge controller model for this config?

I'm looking at two Rec260PE Z-link panels wired in parallel for an RV. I'd like to stick with an Epever CC and MT50 because I have one small system with one and I am comfortable with programming it. I'm confused about the model CC that I should use. There are so many people suggesting...

    BMS limiting output to 2.4v?

Top Balanced cells (3.65v), reconfigured to 4S, battery now reads 14.27v at + & - posts. At C- and + post I get 2.4v. Battery bank posts shows 2.4v. I'm confused. Traced all BMS wires back and they are correct. Checked series connections and they are all correct. Unplugged BMS wire bundle...

    BMS connection method Question...

While I wait for my bench power supply to arrive I am mocking up my LiFePo4 battery bank. I'm making my own copper anchor points for the BMS and I'm wondering if it is OK to wire as shown for the first wire (-) to the BMS. I am not up on electrical theory so I just want to know if the (-) wire...

What's going on with my six year old AGM bank?

I know this battery bank is on its last legs. I just want to know if this is normal end of life stuff or am I seeing an anomaly. I'm not really looking for what to replace the bank with if it is toast but if you insist I will listen. I have what started out as 144 aHrs in my bank. It...

    Wire Gauge Advice

I am designing a 1.3KW system. I can run the wires from the array 35' into my garage, then I would like to use NM (or other interior wire) an additional 35' to the SCC inside my basement. I am seeking info about how to wire this 2S2P system. Combined I'm looking at 81v and 20.5a...

    Will's "DIY 2000 watt, 24v Solar Power System w/ LiFePO4 Batteries"

In Will's DIY video and his web page, both links below, he recommends an Epever 40a charge controller in the materials list for this suggested system. If I go to the charge controller system information it doesn't list LiFePo4 as compatible with the charge controller. The video is a bit aged...

    Battery life in freezing winters

After four winters my camper batteries are going strong. I have eight 18aHr AGM batteries and they are always on active charge 365 days per year. I don't take them out of the camper in the winter and the camper is unheated and sitting outdoors. I occasionally read that batteries should not be...

    Suggestions for off-grid back-up system

I want to have a solar system to back up electric power during very infrequent outages (two short outages in five years). I'd like to power my fridge and freezer full time, which are rated less than 3 KWh/day combined and have enough reserve storage for very conservative power usage if the grid...

    What happens if...

If I have a PV array which uses micro inverters and it is not grid tied and I am not consuming or storing the power generated what happens to that power? If not used is it merely lost? This is just a hypothetical question. I just want to know if damage is done to such a system if current...

    Where to begin...

I'm going to save all the background about why I am no longer going grid-tied. I am now going to avoid at all costs involving my local power company in any PV system. If curious about why you can peruse my previous posts on the subject. I am thinking about a parallel PV system to power...

What is a "Good Payback Period" in years for Grid Tied Residential Solar?

I know it all depends on many variables. I'm talking about 3.5kWh level sytem. Just looking for simple, one sentence answers of folks who either have invested or are about to invest in solar. Considering only investment dollars (though that is only one of many concerns) at what point of...

Grid Tie w/ Micro Inverters... an alternative to tying into breaker panel (load center).

No, I'm not proposing an alternative. I'm wonder about the situation with my utility and my proposed grid-tied micro inverter system. If I understand correctly, the wiring from micro inverters in a grid tied system comes out of the safety disconnect (near meter socket ideally) and goes...

Close to final eq list... looking for some expert advice.

I am nearly settled on a nine panel array which includes Heliene 365w panels, Enphase IQ 7+ micro inverters and Enphase Q cables from inverter to inverter and combiner junction box. Enphase rates the IQ 7+ to up to 440w panels but does not recommend the Heliene 365w with the IQ 7+, however...

    Confused about Enphase IQ-7+ capability

I'm hoping to build an array of eight PV panels with micro inverters. I am limiting myself to eight as it is all that will fit in my preferred rack (about 77"x40" ea). So, I want to go with around 400w panels. Does it pay to install 400w panels when the inverter is likely to clip at lower...

Can someone verify I'm interpreting this Solar Site Survey correctly?

Attached is my solar site survey with assumptions of unobstructed sunshine hours on the right. The red/black dashed line is if I trim some trees, but, it looks as if that only improves a couple months direct sunshine, so, I might not do any trimming with the knowledge that I can in the future...
