Bump - can anyone offer any insight on this?

    Cell Cap. Voltages for BMS

I’m using 3x DIY 190ah batteries each with a 4S Overkill Solar BMS. What Cell Cap. Voltages are recommended for 10% up to 100% and everywhere in between? These are my current settings which don’t seem right:

    Solar output drop, unsure why.

Got it, for some reason I thought panels were more dictated by volts than amps, as in amps we more of a constant if in the sun and it was the voltage varied. Now I feel stupid. I appreciate the replies!

    Solar output drop, unsure why.

So even though the panels are hitting their max voltages, they will produce less watts? Sorry my knowledge of panels is limited. Edit: I'm in Colorado

    Solar output drop, unsure why.

I have 2x 200W panels on my van that were producing around 350W Pmax a few weeks ago (closer to 400W P max in summer). I just noticed now that output is around 200W P max. The V max is the same at around 40V. I cleaned the panels as they were a little dirty, it made a little difference of about...

    Battery Case

Also, for anyone who comes across this post later for the same reason - $80 is a decent deal on these cases!

    Battery Case

Yeah I've seen those, very nice!! But I really only need the case so spending $600+ on 3 cases is too much.

    Battery Case

Thanks but I'd order then from Ali if I had the time to wait - I'm looking for something available now. Good idea to bring some in though!!! They're impossible to find in the US.

Thanks but that's the one I don't want.

    Battery Case

Anyone know where I can find a battery case in the USA? These ones are quite bulky: I'm looking for one like this but can only find them on Ali Express (I'd like one from a US supplier to get it ASAP).

    Adding batteries with different SOC

Hi all, I have 12x 3.2V battery cells. They've been split into 3 separate units of 4 cells in parallel in order to level out out the voltage (since I wasn't planning to use them for a little while). Each battery the 3 batteries has 4 cells with the same SOC, although each battery has a slightly...

    DC-DC Chargers in Parallel

I think you may be referring to the non-isolated version? I purchased the isolated version. I haven't got to the wiring of them yet, although off the top of my head I think I will wire them independently of each other (perhaps with another busbar at the battery so the terminals are clean & I can...

    DC-DC Chargers in Parallel

Hi, I haven't installed this yet (the build is slow with kids and a business) but I have all the parts in my garage and I have decided to go this route of wiring the two Orion DC-DC outputs into a busbar (one for + and one for -) then feeding from the busbars into the Lynx Distributor. I've...

    DC-DC Chargers in Parallel

My Lynx Distributor has no room for the 2nd Orion DC-DC and I'm trying to avoid getting a 2nd Lynx Distributor. Can I wire the Orion DC-DC units in Parallel from the Starter to the Orions, then feed their outputs onto small busbars (one + and one -) that then feed as one cable into the Lynx...

    DC-DC Chargers in Parallel

In hindsight that now seems very obvious! Not sure why I didn't think of that... Thanks!

    DC-DC Chargers in Parallel

I was thinking of using the control wires for these things, but I like the breaker idea too. Just need to find mounting near the starter battery....

    DC-DC Chargers in Parallel

you mean instead of using a common wire that branches off into two?

    DC-DC Chargers in Parallel

I read they need 10cm above & below for effective cooling. Maybe I'll also mount a computer fan above them that runs when they're activated. About those control pins, I read the units have a voltage sensor, but I was thinking of using a manual switch with those control pins near the dash board...

    DC-DC Chargers in Parallel

    Great point on the breakers!

    DC-DC Chargers in Parallel

Is there a reason breakers are preferred over fuses for this? I was originally thinking something like just adding two wires (one for each DC-DC) to the starter battery, each with their own in-line fuse. I'll check if I can mount small busbars somewhere near the starter battery so there aren't...

Are all panels suitable for a van?

Sorry I realize now that my question was very vague. I wanted 1 large panel due to mounting and space constraints (on a camper) and I was wondering if house solar panels are different to the smaller 100-200W you typically see on campers and whether those larger panels could be used on campers...

    DC-DC Chargers in Parallel

Hi All, I have two Victron Orion Smart 12|12 – 30A DC-DC chargers on the way and I'm trying to figure out how to wire them in parallel. Do I essentially just wire them as two stand alone DC-DC chargers running next to each other and have them separately fused? Is there another way to do it? I've...

Are all panels suitable for a van?

Hi, I have a noob question. I'm looking for 1 large solar panel to install on a van. Will any work? Or are some designed only to be used on houses? For example, can I use any of these on a van? https://www.ecodirect.com/Biggest-Solar-Panels-s/922.htm?searching=Y&sort=1&cat=922&show=30&page=1

    Power Supply and Test Load

Hi All, I'm putting together a battery that is 12V 570ah (I have 12x 3.2V 190ah cells) and I'd like a power supply to charge/balance and a load to test it. I see the 30V/10A power supply recommended a lot, along with the 150W load tester. Due to the size of my battery, I'm wondering if there...

Scratch that, I've decided to avoid Renogy....

    Undersize MPPT?

I'm looking at the Renogy which only have 40 or 60 amp options (no 50), a $200 difference between those two. The batteries are 3x 12V 190Ah DIY (570Ah total). Heavy usage since we have kids (appliances, laptops for work, electric water heater used sparingly etc). We'll be living in it full-time...

    Undersize MPPT?

I want to get 4x 150W Newpowa mono panels for my van (due to size constraints this is my best option). Theoretically I need a 50 amp MPPT. Considering the efficiency of panels and the fact its unlikely I'll ever get an ideal sun angle since they'll be fixed flat to the roof, if they're 70%...

12V 60A DC to DC Battery Charger

I actually asked Sterling about getting the 120 amp charger, here's what they said: I've decided to stick with the 60 amp. The 180 amp alternator actually puts out around 110 amps, so I'm comfortable with a 60 amp charger (the van doesn't have any fancy electronics that run off the starter...

12V 60A DC to DC Battery Charger

OK I've decided I'm 100% going to Sterling DC-DC route. Now just deciding if I should go the 60 amp or try their newer 120 amp. Need to read through the manuals to see if the 120 amp is suitable for my setup.

12V 60A DC to DC Battery Charger

Good suggestion but we're traveling with young kids so the wife prefers no gas since it's a DIY job (and paying someone to install & run gas lines bumps up cost outside of DIY territory). Plus I want to keep the van as stealth as possible so I didn't want to install any wall vents for a gas...

12V 60A DC to DC Battery Charger

Found that the minimum output for my stock 180A alternator is 110A at 2,500 RPM (engine) when hot. AM Solar also recommend use of a 120A/230A Victron Cyrix-Li Battery Combiner (dependant on alternator).

12V 60A DC to DC Battery Charger

I'll keep digging to find the exact specs, I have a 2020 Ram ProMaster 2500 with the stock 180 amp alternator. I also have a clamp meter on the way to do some tests at home. Looking at comparable 160-190 amp alternators there should be 100+ amps available, plus I'll have a manual switch to only...
