    On Keeping LFP Warm

Life Blue heated "LT" model operates the heater from the charging source only. It comes on automatically whenever it sees available charge current. No manually turning it off and on, or forgetting and leaving it on unnecessarily. Also, the built-in battery monitor knows what's going to the...

Battery box heater with remote monitoring and control (wifi)

I like how you keep them at 10°C, no need to reduce charge current. It would be interesting to see how many amp hours it used each day at a given temperature. We are trying to determine if it's more energy efficient to keep the battery at a constant temperature, or warm it up only as needed...

    On Keeping LFP Warm

I play with a lot of different electronic equipment, but I think volts, amps, and temperature over time is really all I would need. I have solar panels, batteries, inverters, amplifiers, a lot of different equipment. I measure the specs when it's new, then periodically to see how it holds up...

Battery box heater with remote monitoring and control (wifi)

Looks good. How many amp hours does it use per day?

    On Keeping LFP Warm

Thanks to everybody... I wonder how much we could get done if we were all in the same shop for a few days. Hmm. It makes me wonder why a team of four or five guys haven't spent a week in a lab doing this. You would think it has been done before, right? I have thought about building a simple...

    On Keeping LFP Warm

I have a battery in the freezer now. I will start the .1 C test tomorrow. The temp sensor is maybe an inch below the BMS. I'm taking IR images with a FLIR, it doesn't look like the BMS is heating up as much as I thought it would. I will put a few of those pictures up. After I do a few of the...

    On Keeping LFP Warm

The testing continues.... I would like to do at least 6 or 8 charge-discharge cycles with each battery to average out anomalies and get good numbers. I do not have data logging equipment, I am keeping everything handwritten on a clipboard. I'm looking for an easy way to plot that information on...

    On Keeping LFP Warm

One of the batteries went up 8°F, another one went up to 16°F. All of them were kept in the freezer the entire time discharge rate was .25C (25 amps).

    Battleborn batteries inverter startup issues

A well made battery with a robust BMS will handle inverter inrush current without any trouble. But a lightweight BMS will trip out every time. I guess someone has to state the obvious, we continue to hear this same problem repeatedly with "certain brands"...

    On Keeping LFP Warm

Update #2: I find myself repeating some tests several times. The results I am getting are in contradiction to my previously held assumptions and beliefs. I am using the same batteries, the same charging conditions, the same discharge machines. And I get the same results every time. This forum...

RV panels connecting to grid tie

It can certainly be done, but the return on investment would probably not be worth it. And forget any illusions of being code compliant. The simplest solution would be to run an AC line from the RV into one room of the house. Use a power strip and plug the computer or television into it. That...

    On Keeping LFP Warm

OK, so I got the first round of testing done. This is a quick update, when I get the data collected I will present it in a more organized fashion. I used a chest freezer at 0°F. I repeated the test using three different 100ah non-heated lifepo4 batteries, to get an average. The results were...

Inverter Load Sense (low idle power) Mode

Right. But that's only part of the story. By the time you figure the draw of the clock on the microwave and satellite dish, etc. You can double that pretty quickly.

Building system around Magnum 2812 Inverter/Charger - questions

You need remotes with the proper software updates to properly charge lithium batteries. ME-RC v2.8 or higher ME-ARC v4.0 or higher The ME-RC should work for you, the ME-ARC gives you additional functions of using battery monitor kit, PT100 charge controller, and auto gen start all tied together...

Things that strike me as odd...

The problem with the Magnum IC's is that when the charger initiates, if the voltage is 12.9 or higher, it goes directly to float. Those were designed long before lithium batteries. To fix it, you need either ME-RC 50 software rev 2.8 or newer ME-ARC 50 software rev 4.0 or newer Those newer...

New here from ID "inverter Confused"

I will second that. I've seen plenty of those in service for 25 years or more. And they are repairable, if you do have trouble, you should be able to find someone who can repair them. Although, the Magnum 4024 PAE is my favorite these days. And BTW Schneider sold last year to a company based in...

Voltage drop between panels and Charge Controller

True that. You are allowed to say stuff like that when you are a little gray, right? At least I'm not hollering for the kids to get off my lawn... I just get so frustrated, everyday there are people on here who have spent thousands of dollars buying equipment without even doing a load...

    Go Power with BMS

GoPower IC3000 inverters are fine when used with AGMs or FLAs, but they don't play well with lifepo4 batteries. The control circuit was designed before lithium batteries became popular and they do not have any software updates that offer lithium settings or CC/CV. When the charger comes on and...

Voltage drop between panels and Charge Controller

You know it really is a shame that the folks who sell this stuff don't offer design assistance for tech support. People have to get online to a DIY forum to find out how to hook stuff up? Maybe I'm getting old, but I remember when people behind the counter used to help you out with that sort of...

    On Keeping LFP Warm

Interesting topic, I've been kind of following along. Something occurred to me, I have a bunch of 100 ah lifepo4 batteries with internal temperature sensors and an empty chest freezer. I can leave one in there overnight, and get it down to, say -20° F. And then put a load on it of different...

Two fold purpose for vehicle solar panel

Interesting thread. I always enjoy listening to a couple of hardheads who can still have a reasonable discussion. ? I will throw my two cents in. What voltmeter are you using to read the voltage on your batteries? Is it known to be accurate? And what voltage is the alternator charging the...

Is it possible to use a 120v relay as an automatic transfer switch?

You're on the right track. I've installed dozens of those. Use a 20a DPDT relay and switch both hot and neutral. You can just switch the hot with some inverters, (I've done it in a pinch) but some units will see a fault and trip out. It's best to get the correct relay and it will work fine.

Back Flow Current - Blocking Diode

I guess what I should have said was. Diodes are unnecessary and a complete waste of time and money. If you are using the proper equipment. If you are trying to rig something up to do a job it was never meant to do, of course you are going to have to make some modifications to it. I personally...

    I'm building it......and I'm terrified....

If the engine is going to be idling very much, or you are driving regularly, I would absolutely hook the alternator charge line up first. There will be plenty of days you will get more power from the alternator than you will from the solar panels. And on a rainy day you can let the engine idle a...

Cheap charger destroyed the $1,699 renogy battery

It's difficult to imagine that with all of the technology available today, they did not put a circuit in there that would disconnect if the voltage gets too high. I know there are some batteries on the market that have that built-in. What did they save, $2? I understand that technically it is...

    On Keeping LFP Warm

You could let a family of raccoons live in there, that should keep things warm. Maybe some plutonium, that slight decay would add a few degrees... never mind.
