Building a 24 V battery bank: Using 12V batteries is much cheaper, but is it worth it over using 24V batteries?

Just have a question for you Steve - why do you float at 27.5V (3.437vpc)? Looking at the charts you've posted that would be about 99-99.5% which seems pretty high in a working system that would be under load. Just curious as most of the info I've read shows others floating in the 26.8-27.2...

What is acceptable Cell distortion for LF280K?

Thanks for the reply and info. I was planning on just using foam tape (which I saw in the breakdown of the SOK batteries). But it seems like most builds I read about are using epoxy sheets or the fiberglass mats you mentioned.

What is acceptable Cell distortion for LF280K?

I'm planning on doing the same...did you use any epoxy sheets or foam tape or anything in between the cells?

2 diy batteries with individual BMS - is paralleling them with terminal bus bars okay?

I'm in the same situation and am about to build my first bank. Will be going with a 8s2p setup with two BMS units, similar to the diagram Steve provided. As Supra said, basically you are making two separate, functioning batteries and then paralleling them, as many people do with the plug and...

Community perceived quality: EVE 105 / 230 (Ezeal)

Thanks very much for your reply. The 280K V3 are cheaper for me, so maybe it's worth a try for a lower price than the 304 in my off-grid system.

Community perceived quality: EVE 105 / 230 (Ezeal)

Thanks for that, was a good watch. What would you personally go for - the 304 or for about 6% less cost the 280 V3?

Community perceived quality: EVE 105 / 230 (Ezeal)

Thanks...I didn't know Andy had a video on them, so will have a look tonight. The 280K V3 is 5% cheaper than the 304 for me, so a bit of a tough call.

Community perceived quality: EVE 105 / 230 (Ezeal)

I'm currently debating between the LF304 and LF280K V3 - curious why you put the V3s as great over the others? Is there more info out there on them apart from the SFK video?

    Which JK 24v BMS?

I ordered mine from Hankzor on aliexpress a couple of months ago. Shipping was estimated to be 6 weeks to New Zealand when I placed the order, but it arrived in about 10 days.

BMS cable lengths - same length?

Do both the P- and B- cables coming from either side of the BMS (JK-B2A8S20P) in an 8S config need to be the same length?

Busbar / Distribution Block vs. Terminal Stud

I'm wondering what the advantages or disadvantages would be in using either of these in a DIY lifepo4 build? I'm building my own enclosure so either should work fine I think. First build so hoping I can get a little guidance...

How much safer is 24v vs 48v ?

I have a very similar system size wise to yours, and am about to change over to a DIY 8s2p battery. Any chance you could share a pic of your new battery setup?

    LFP charger for standby application

Apart from the IP ratings and amps, the one big difference to keep in mind is the IP22 has an internal fan, while the IP65 and IP67 models do not.

Apologies...I didn't read your post closely enough and missed the very important part of wanting to monitor each cell lol

BMS Recommendations, to monitor 24s via wifi?

I don't think a BMS is the way to go with AGM. Have you looked at a Victron Battery Monitor like the BMV-712 or the Smart Shunt?

Ending Amps / Tail Current on or off?

My controller has the ability to set a both a timed absorb and ending amps, and it will switch to float when one or the other occurs.

Ending Amps / Tail Current on or off?

Thanks again for the advice and explanation. We used a smaller system in the first two years we were off-grid while setting things up, so the current AGMs we have are in their 8th year now. We do have pretty low usage...usually around 2-3kWh per day.
  23. G

Ending Amps / Tail Current on or off?

I guess I'm meaning these two general options: 3.55V, shorter absorb time and/or 0.05C cut-off vs 3.45V, longer absorb time and no cut-off I am running a pretty small system, and it's been great for the last 8-10 years using AGMs. Would the size of my system / usage mean I should go one way...

Ending Amps / Tail Current on or off?

Thanks very much for the reply. You are a wealth of knowledge on this forum and I appreciate the explanation. What are your thoughts on those who go aggressive with their settings? Just trying to wrap my head around the different routes and why people choose one over the other.

Ending Amps / Tail Current on or off?

I've read through quite a few posts and am wondering what the consensus is for this setting? Have seen some posts saying switch it off, and others stating to use it at .05C. I will be using the LF304 in an 8S config using the JK BMS w/ 2A active balancing. Planning to set float to 3.35Vpc...

Where are the B code EVE lifepo4 cells gone?

From a business perspective, wouldn't it make more sense to leave everything in tact and original, and simply state the reason why they failed Automotive Grade? I for one would love this info before buying, as most of these are perfect for a solar or off-grid setup. We all just want to know...

Discounted Cells That Have Been In Storage

Thanks for the reply and all the info. The cells were simply stored and have been sitting there untouched for the 18 months. The seller is willing to do the IR test and match them as close as possible. Of course I would then top balance them myself if I end up going with them. I can get the...

Discounted Cells That Have Been In Storage

It would be for a live system - have been on AGMs the last eight years and now making the switch over. I can get the LF304 for a decent price from a different seller (about 10% more in cost than these stored units), so am looking into that as well.

Discounted Cells That Have Been In Storage

Thanks very much - it's my first lifepo4 bank as we've been on AGM batteries the last eight years, and you've answered a few of my questions now so much appreciate the help and knowledge.

Discounted Cells That Have Been In Storage

I'm only going by what the seller has told me as I can't view the cells myself. He won't do a full capacity test or top balance them or anything - just wants them gone for that price. He did say he will measure IR to try and get a set of 8 for me that are at least close.

Discounted Cells That Have Been In Storage

What's the general consensus on cells that have been stored long-term? I am looking at the LF280K cells, and can either choose newly manufactured ones or go for some that have been in storage for about 18 months (all cells are storage grade and not automotive grade) The stored cells are 20%...

Choosing a T class fuse for DIY battery

Quick question if you don't mind...I have a breaker between my inverter and battery. When I change from AGM to Lifepo4, are you saying an additional fuse 1.25x my battery link size is also required?
