104% Tariff Just Announced On Chinese Imports..

Yeah and if my granny had wheels I'd drive her like a car.

The only way China is getting into a war with the US is if the most warlike nation the world has ever seen(the US) decided to start a war with them.

This is one of the great benefits of global trade, capitalism and interdependency, it reduces conflict and makes war so unpalatable that people don't even have to work that hard to avoid it.

Want to know how uninhabited islands got on the tariff list? It's because Trump said "ALL countries" and his incompetent unprofessional staff of sycophants used an internet top level domain list to find "all the countries" and if you look, you will see that the Heard and McDonald Islands have their own TLD, it's .HM

I know it's hard for some people to fathom, but this administration lacks knowledgeable professionals. Trump values personal loyalty and what he thinks is great television presence above all else. See my other comment about "Ron Varo". These people are fundamentally ignorant and think they know what they're doing. It's the Dunning Kruger effect in over drive.
I have not finished reading this thread, but let me just say you have have absolutely been cooking. Thank goodness there are some people who can still see beyond the veneer of rhetoric and bluster. Thank you!

I don't even understand the Stock Market anymore. I suspect it has become or always has been nothing more than a way to swallow up peoples 401Ks and deposit them into the hands of the wealthy
Tesla stock is going right back up even though their current financial position and future outlook is exactly the same or even worst than it was 48 hours ago.
I don't understand it either. I did okay back when I managed my wife and my retirement funds. I saw the dot com crash coming and moved to bonds. Same thing in 2008 on that crash. We made out very well on both. Other than those, it was hit or miss. But our son is a branch manager now for Merrill Lynch and he has a better handle on it. Still a crap shoot but he has consistently done well for us. We moved to about 50% cash back in December and haven't regretted it. At 4.5% and no risk, especially at our age, that feels pretty good. We only hold dividend paying blue chip stocks. It's probably a better bet than Vegas but short term can kick your ass.

I converted half of my 401k to gold in 2022 at around $1700 an ounce. It’s almost doubled since then. Just a lucky gamble.

You put a 25% tariff on our Steel and Aluminum.
We had no tariff against your Steel and Aluminum, cars or car parts.

Thats not black mail thats just Trump being a horses Arse.
except that is a blantant lie....
there were on tarrifs on us steel before 2016 ( trump 1st term)...
Ya know, for a smart guy you say some dumb stuff… seriously ….that’s a terrible thing to say…
Some times it’s best to just hush if you have nothing good to add to the conversation..
Truth just burst your bubble ?

Honestly no I just drink lots of water avoid rich foods high in purines and eat a lots of veggies lean meat chicken and plenty of fibre
Cant hurt to try, but I also avoid sugars and fruit juices can be high in sugars
It’s unsweetened cherry juice it has some tannins or something in it the help.

Like the idea of you do indulge in something, wash it down with some cherry juice and you’ll be good.

My father and father in law have dealt with bouts of gout and they both love shellfish.

Right with you.
Made most good choices and a few bad when it comes to money and life in general, didn't really matter who was in office the decisions needed to be made, and you do the best you can with the cards you been dealt.

The rants of doom, and gloom are people frustrated with their own lives.

The underlying options trade control the market now. Dealers need to stay gamma neutral so they will usually use options to cover it or they need to buy/sell the underlying shares. When the market takes a sudden turn, the gamma isn't neutral so the dealers have to cover it. As everyone was so bearish, the covering on short positions with just a small squeeze can cause large reversals.

I texted a friend yesterday the gaps on the S&P 500 daily will get filled and then the market will probably drop once again. One gap was filled yesterday and futures are down overnight. That remaining gap will get filled on a squeeze today or tomorrow and down it goes.

The stock market now is just a casino with players using option trades to profit. It doesn't matter if a company makes money or is losing money, it is all about positioning with options. We could get into many aspects such as buying/selling options or something like straddles but it is the gamma on options trades that control price movement.

Edited to add this on to your response to robby.

I don't know about everybody else's 401Ks, but I have every right to put my money into whatever fund I want. I can go conservative (Bonds) or risk it all and go with aggressive stocks. Everyone has the same chance to exceed or fail or make do with the low and slow. Saying the rich have the advantage "Because Money" is like saying life is not fair of course it is not fair, but the chance to make your life better or worse is in the hands of the individual you may have to start at the bottom with small gains but they will grow and the more you risk the more chances you have be one of the so called "Wealthy".

This is a post I saw on FB. I thought I would share as it provides something to reflect and think about. Plus it's said better that I could write.
“In my life, I have watched John Kennedy talk on television about missiles in Cuba. I saw Lyndon Johnson look Richard Russell squarely in the eye and and say, "And we shall overcome."

I saw Richard Nixon resign and Gerald Ford tell the Congress that our long national nightmare was over.

I saw Jimmy Carter talk about malaise and Ronald Reagan talk about a shining city on a hill. I saw George H.W. Bush deliver the eulogy for the Soviet bloc, and Bill Clinton comfort the survivors of Timothy McVeigh's madness in Oklahoma City.

I saw George W. Bush struggle to make sense of it all on September 11, 2001, and I saw Barack Obama sing 'Amazing Grace' in the wounded sanctuary of Mother Emanuel Church in Charleston, South Carolina.

"These were the presidents of my lifetime. These were not perfect men. They were not perfect presidents, god knows. Not one of them was that. But they approached the job, and they took to the podium, with all the gravitas they could muster as appropriate to the job.

They tried, at least, to reach for something in the presidency that was beyond their grasp as ordinary human beings. They were not all ennobled by the attempt, but they tried nonetheless.
"And comes now this hopeless, vicious buffoon, and the audience of equally hopeless and vicious buffoons who laughed and cheered when he made sport of a woman whose lasting memory of the trauma she suffered is the laughter of the perpetrators.

Now here comes, a man swathed in scandal, with no interest beyond what he can put in his pocket and what he can put over on a universe of suckers, and he does something like this while occupying an office that we gave him, and while endowed with a public trust that he dishonors every day he wakes up in the White House.

"The scion of a multigenerational criminal enterprise, the parameters of which we are only now beginning to comprehend. A vessel for all the worst elements of the American condition. And a cheap, soulless bully besides.

We never have had such a cheap counterfeit of a president* as currently occupies the office. We never have had a president* so completely deserving of scorn and yet so small in the office that it almost seems a waste of time and energy to summon up the requisite contempt.

"Watch how a republic dies in the empty eyes of an empty man who feels nothing but his own imaginary greatness, and who cannot find in himself the decency simply to shut up even when it is in his best interest to do so. Presidents don't have to be heroes to be good presidents.

They just have to realize that their humanity is our common humanity, and that their political commonwealth is our political commonwealth, too.

Watch him behind the seal of the President of the United States. Isn't he a funny man? Isn't what happened to that lady hilarious? Watch the assembled morons cheer.

Uh-oh somebody said some bad words about Trump, I better make ZERO effort whatsoever to be a patriotic American with any standards and double and triple and quadruple down on him being right all the time* or my peers will think I'm a weak libtard.

Anyone who says anyways bad about your dear leader gets labeled with a mental disorder.
🤣🤣🤦

Of which btw Biden supporters NEVER did.
Every person on the left who I have ever personally talked to about Biden or Kamala eas like "Yeah... I don't like them, they're not a great person and I don't like every one of their policies, but that's the candidate on my side".

Has any one of you on the right had a single self thought idea that wasn't spoon ges to you by Trump and his cohorts?

Because it is OBJECTIVELY not even possible that you believe every single thing that Trump says, just on the basis of living in the same reality that I do.
None of y'all are willing to speak even a single fucking sentence that is deemed negative towards Trump.

Free yourself.
Go on.
Say something negative about him.

If you were a real American Patriot you'd do it.
I fucking dare you.

But the majority of y'all are for Trump and not for America.
Your forefathers would be ashamed of you.

On Topic. I had made an order for a cart off Aliexpress with shipping from the US. Got this reply from the Seller this morning.
Hello! Due to the only stock of this product having some defects, we cannot deliver this package to you. We have to reorder from China to the US warehouse, but due to the new regulations by the US President, we cannot arrive on time We have a severe delay. So we have decided to give you a full refund. I'm very sorry, after you cancel the order, I will process a full refund for you. When you see the message, please reply to me and cancel the order as soon as possible to get a refund. Thank you

Raise tariffs, pause tariffs, keep some tariffs, add more tariffs. It's either market manipulation ... or the administration doesn't have a clue what they are doing. Price of oil is falling, bond markets are falling, stock markets are jittery and down again. And it's all self-inflicted.

Gov't could have done this with some planning and finesse and Wall St would have been OK with it. The damage is done ... the world knows they can't trust the US any more.

I cannot speak to everyone here but for some reason you seem to see into the great void that is your head and assume things about everybody else.

I have not seen (personally) one person that supported Trump on this action, or another topic say that they supported every decision he ever made. Just like the same for liberals, or democrats for their candidate of choice.

It is the same for both sides and you know why... there are no sides we in the same boat skippy, under the same roof, floating on the same sea.
It is not black and white anymore. Shades of grey everywhere in everyone.

Get educated.

Kind of a bummer that this thread has degenerated into name calling...
Kind of a bummer people are having their private property burned and Swatsikas added to their property in the streets of America. We risk our lives and property everyday if we dare wear or drive the wrong thing. I think you can handle reading a few posts from people tired of the hypocrisy, lies, threats and violence.

I support whatever tarrifs it takes to MAGA. It's hard to buy American made products when they're all made in our enemies factories, if the Tarrifs bring back manufacturing and weaken our enemies, that's a bonus.

I had multiple tabs open and just noticed this is your safe zone , my apologies for bringing the truth where it isn't welcome.

I blame it all on Will, he started the thread.
But seriously, Will covered a lot of good points in his video. The big problem is, every generation becomes more of a me me me generation needing quicker and quicker instant gratification. World ignorance feeds on that. People find it harder and harder to grasp the situation because it's too big and too far removed from our cell phones. I equate what China is doing to our economy to what Walmart and Amazon are doing to mom and pops and even chain stores that are closing. We simply don't care, we want the convenience and lower prices.

Business here aren't trying to grow, they are trying to stay afloat with less. People aren't going to pursue engineering degrees when the trend is to get by will less engineers. Until we HAVE to develop and produce here, we aren't going to do it because the market won't support it.

That being said, we can't be rich people without being a rich country. Our standard of living and the cost to maintain it won't be about the the house next door, but about how we stack up to other countries. Not to get political, but nationalism has become a bad word. We need to revisit that.

Land votes now?
After seeing that red v blue county map, I knew some brainlet wasn't going to be able to resist making this comment.

A single farmer in rural America is worth more than 100 city dwellers all crammed into an apartment playing their video games and satisfying their consumerist urges browsing Amazon all day. Rural Americans deserve more voting power, and thankfully the electoral college ensures that.

And I say this as a city dweller.

Oh great. It is not like US and Canada already overpay to solar panels already /s. I have 14kw system in Canada that I paid 30K, and installed myself (no labour). In our Mexican residency, I was quoted around $15K for a similar system, and that includes labour. Pretty sure, due to the BYDs, Chirey, and other chinese cars I see all over, they (Mexico) also get to access them sweet cheap solar panels.
