Im wanting to power an AC mini split unit on my covered porch. I have a Growatt3000 hybrid system and am considering whether I should buy a 48 volt AC unit with grid backup or get a 120V unit and use the Growatt inverter AC supply. How much more efficient is direct 48 volt from battery and solar?

Your Growatt should have an inverter efficiency value in the specifications. That's how much more power it takes to run something on AC rather than DC, approximately.

An insignificant amount compared to the amount of energy a 12k BTU AC uses.

You almost always pay a price premium for buying DC anything. My stratage has been to eliminate all DC loads and focus exclusively on AC appliances only. It has worked very well for me, including air-conditioning.
