As long as you have fault protection ( fuse / breaker ) on the series string paralleled to your EW batteries it would be reasonable low cost additional storage.
Yes, you don't know the exact SOC of the added string, but from my experience, it evens out fairly well sharing the loads with the communicating batteries.
