Happy new year to one and all. Wishing everyone a good 2025, may the sun always shine on your panels.

How did everyone's systems perform in 2024?

This is a follow up to my post last year summarising 2023.

This was our 2024:

PV Output
Annual production of grid PV system over the years:

2024 production was 2.2% above average.

Consumption
Our consumption was highest ever this year, to be expected as this was the first full year of the property (two homes) having four adult residents plus our EV. Previously it was either two or three residents.

We consumed over 83% of our own solar PV generation this year. This is our journey over the years showing how our self consumption has changed and some of the key factors along the way:

Imports
Grid imports were also up but fortunately not to anything like they were after we first moved here:

A significant portion (19.7%) of our imports were free of charge, with super off-peak consumption becoming a regular part of our energy supply strategy from April onwards.

Daily average imports and exports:

Battery performance
Average daily charge/discharge:

Average daily battery value:

On average the battery netted a bill reduction of $3.33/day. That's based on actual time of use tariffs and foregone feed in credit. Most charging was from off-grid PV, with free grid energy also used for charging.

Bill Reduction
Total annual bill reduction of $4,495 (an underestimate).

EV
14,076 km / 2,490.5 kWh
Charging cost: $402
$122 from home charging / $280 from public charging (mostly DC fast chargers on highway trips).

Vehicle energy costs (compared with previous Mercedes diesel) reduced by ~$1,300.

Charging source. Majority of charging at home from either our solar PV or from free grid energy.

Our grid-tied PV system paid for itself after ~4.5 years. The off-grid system and batteries have recovered 36% of their cost and are on track to be fully recovered in 5.5 years.
