2024 Solar Scorecard: How did you your system do this year?

20.9 + 5.2 =26.1 MWh's across a mixture of systems. We get around 90% of energy from the sun then like many of us the short often cloudy days increase our reliance on the grid.

I don't do all the fancy monitoring so have no color graphs or real numbers to display. But my scorecard has been that I achieved Aircon, electric clothes dryer and fairly close to zeroing any grid usage. Not a bad 2024 although some choices I made did not work out and a different tack was taken. If nothing else it gave me a purpose and provided many hours of blood, sweat and tears. What more can a person ask for?

I didn't start monitoring the 48v system until late July and it's only powering the computers, telescopes, cameras in the observatory, the pool pump in summer. The older 24v system is a 7.5kwh backup.

Using the grid to keep a small ceramic heater warming the shed. Powering some heating pads for when it gets really cold ( like this coming week ) and just added a diesel heater. Spring will be here soon, since being old, time flies all too fast…

Happy New Year

I used 7,174 kWh of ac power in 2024 and had to buy 264 kWh, or 3.7%.

I have 14 kW of panels installed, all ground mounted with little shade, voltage drop, connector losses, etc.

For the bad two months, November and December, I can only get half of the PV watts prediction. For the rest of the year I handily beat it. I think PVWatts underestimates our early winter cloud cover, as I live on a small peninsula that juts up into Lake Superior and my small area is greatly influenced by the lake.

My utility wouldn't give me a cogeneration agreement since I wanted enough panels to provide reliable backup power(my original motive for going solar,) so the 7.2 MWh is way less than I could generate if I had larger loads or net metering.

Just a little under 15.000 kWh.
With 8 more panels and an additional battery I can bring my electricity bill down to almost 0.

First year with my solar system, and I only have 3 months and 10 days. But 2.8MWh made with 856KWh of grid .. I made so many changes in those 4 months I look forward to how that grid number should drop this year.. it was 23% of my power in 2024, but already down to 18% this year and should go much lower. Great thread …very interesting to see how we all did ..
