Can I leave my 36Ah LiFePo4 battery plugged into the charger when the charger is on green/idle? Or would this damage the batteries? The intention is to use it as a battery backup for when grid power goes out. Current setup:

AC wall plug to —>
Charger (ExpertPower 12V 5A Smart Charger for Lithium LiFePO4 model:EPC125) to —>
Miady 12v 36Ah LiFePo4 Battery to —>
2000W Pure Sine Wave Inverter (GoWISE Power 2000W Pure Sine Wave Power Inverter 12V DC to 120V AC) to —>

…load

I’d like to install a an automatic transfer switch soon but not sure how this works if the charger can’t always be connected.

Thank you
Isaac

In theory, keeping a LFP battery at float will shorten its lifespan. But you need it for a backup so you want it close to full charge all the time. I am not familiar with that charger but as long as the voltage drops to somewhere around 13.4V after charging you should be fine. You may not get the ultimate number of cycles but it should be ready when you need it.
