Hello - I am debating on a few 48V lipo systems to run in my electric outboard motor boat and I would like opinions and help from people on this forum.

Here are my choices I have narrowed down to below with a 10 year warranty on the cells and 1 year on the BMS:

ONE complete 48V 120ah LiFePO4 pack (135A internal BMS) 5kwh 110lbs - $1500

TWO complete 24V 120ah LiFePO4 pack (135A internal BMS) 6kwh (3kwh x 2 in series) 102lbs (51 lbs x 2) - $2,100

FOUR complete 12V 120ah LiFePO4 pack (175A internal BMS) 6kwh (1.5kwh x 4 in series) 168 lbs (42lbs x4) - $2,000

Note: The FOURTH choice (DIY 12V Packs) seems out of the question due to cost and time involved and ???? warranty

BTW - I am currently running 4 110AH AGM batteries in 2 electric outboard motor boats and I want to go to LiPo

Please help me decide ASAP as I need to order one of these right away OR if any OTHER setup/system someone comes up with.

Two 24V 120ah battery is still the same energy as one 48v 120ah battery.

How does one equal 5kWh and the other equal 6 kWh?

1x48x120=5760
2x24x120=5760

But in actual "Nominal" voltage;
1x51.2x120=6144 Wh ~ 6 kWh
2x25.6x120=6144 Wh ~ 6 kWh

I would go with the "48V" setup. Option ONE.

If warranty is the same, the 1500 unit seems the best choice.
Will 120A handle the motor?

It's debatable to try to run two outboards off one battery bank (48v).You would need two 48 volt banks.

I have two boats running one electric outboard each. I decided to go with 4 12v LifePO4 packs in series for 48v just like I have now using the 4 12v AGMs.
After watching two "breakdown" video's of the 12v packs, I see that I can easily replace one of the four cells in the pack if one goes bad after the 10 year warranty.
Also, I may not need to, but right now I have 4 12v AGMs in series and 4 12v AGMs in parallel in each boat to give me longer run time. IF I need to, I can parallel 4 more LifePO4 12v packs to the 4 12v LifePO4 I am getting.

I have gone with FOUR complete 12V 120ah LiFePO4 pack (175A internal BMS) 6kwh (1.5kwh x 4 in series) 168 lbs (42lbs x4) - $2,000 so that if or when ONE cell of the FOUR may go bad AFTER the 10 year warranty, I can replace just that one cell IF I want to OR all 4 in one of the cabinets
