A reason to go off grid if local power is coal

this is the most asinine opinion piece i have read in a while... filled with every single buzzword from the left you could think of...

the whole think about the poor minorities who live in industrial areas BS is the icing on the cake...

anything championed by Gina McCarthy is guranteed to be a socialist propaganda piece, thats why Obammy hired her.

The main thing was the increase of mercury.. I'm not worried about the title piece of "greenhouse gas emissions". A lot of people eat fish in Minnesota for instance and methyl mercury was easily detected in fish and actual warnings for pregnant women to limit their intake. In the past few years they have actually detected a noticeable decline in mercury in fish which benefits unborn children. Not sure what is wrong with wanting that.

nothing wrong with that at all even though i think the standards are a bit on the high side. all of the environmental standards are always on the hgih side to err on the side of caution per se... many of them are set with so little pier reviewed research or worse yet paid by one side or the other that you cannot trust their result 90% of the time (from either side). remember japanese eat a lot fo fish, and the fish they eat tend to be those that live a long time which means a lot of mercury and other heavy metal contamination as well and these are fish that live in the deep sea where there is not coal fired power plants to put the mercury into the system... yet they have lots of mercury in them. (and have had since long before the industrial revolution i would hazard.

Where's the mercury coming from?

I assume that is a rhetorical question :) since the article stated it is from coal burning power plants.
It also stated multiple other sources along with other dangerous stuff in fish. What I was getting at is it isn't all from coal.

If my local power was coal I would go off grid to run my own coal furnace, coal plant, and coal powered truck to haul coal with.

I never understood how much living without local fossil fuels sucked until I moved here. As a kid I could literally mine coal in my back yard (albeit from the hundred year old coal skip)
