I have a Sungold power 4000 watt 120/240 split phase 48v inverter, I want to increase my output by adding another inverter, is this something I could do by using a grid-tie inverter?

I don't know 100% on your question, but you may want to look at this thread too...

I am pretty sure Sun Gold LF inverters do not support AC coupling, so answer is no to paralleling a GT inverter to Sun Gold inverter output.

Sun Gold does say it has back feed protection meaning it will shut down the first time AC loads are less than GT inverter's output.

I think this guy came up with a possibly good solution to expanding his Sun Gold Power inverter output:

Perhaps he could probably get more into stackable inverters on next run...
