I have 2 Trojan 12 225 ah on a 12 volt system, they have been connected to the charge controller and inverter for about a 11 ½ months. Because is a backup system they have been rarely use (just for the occasional blackout), maybe a 8 hours and never discharge less than 12.9 volt. Because the hurricane season I want to add 2 more batteries of the same brand and model.

The question is if it is safe to do so and if I have to charge all 4 (the one years and the new ones to the same voltage) or there’s a procedure to be done.

I would just add them and run the positive wire off battery 1, and the negative off battery 4. They will equalize over time and I don't think the current batteries are old enough to seriously impact overall life span of the new system.

It would be better to have all four batteries at least pretty close on voltage though...

Thanks’. I will be charging the new ones they came at about 12.6 volts.
