Solar noob here with basic questions about adding some batteries to an existing system.

I have a (grid-tied) 18KPV with a rack of six 48V EG4-LL’s and I’d like to add a pair of Ruixu Lithi2-16 batteries (not purchased yet) to approximately double my storage.

Electrically, the busbars in the existing rack of batteries are connected to the first (left) battery inputs in the 18K and the rack is communicating data-wise with the 18K via the CAN bus.

I’m wondering if I can just wire the Ruixus to a pair of busbars and connect those to the second (right) battery inputs in the 18K. Will that work?

Do I need to do anything special to make those connections? From reading, I’m getting that it would be good if all the batteries were fully charged which I guess I could do by fully charging the EG4 bank, disconnecting it, connecting the Ruixu’s and fully charging them, and then re-connecting the EG4’s.

I understand that if I connect the batteries like this that I will not have any data communications between the 18K and the Ruixu batteries. But I do not know what the implications of not having that data flow are.

Contact RUIXU. I doubt you can get the comm working but you never know. At any rate the chemistry is the same, should work ok.

Did you go with the Lithi2-16 in the end? I am having coms issues with just the Lithi2 and Flexboss. Not sure if it is a software bug with the new system or possible hardware issue. Waiting to hear from Ruixu support which takes 3+ days to turn each message around so slow... Let me know if you had luck. Thanks.

Hi Eaton,
Select 'PYLON' on the battery and 'Type1' on the inverter
