Again - LED flickering/pulsing with off-grid inverters - my thoughts on this

Funny, I have the super sense of smell…. I can detect rotting meat from 30 paces, not kidding me and the wife fight all the time when I grab something out of the fridge and chuck itin the trash…. Beef is the worst it needs to stay frozen until ready for use … flickering lights no worries but anything that is decaying…. I can literally smell something that nobody else notices and start 🤮 barfing never had it until my second tour on Okinawa

I reckon you've been in Japan too long and have caught that wonderful Japanese like, nay obsession, with ultra hyper-fresh food!

The Vapors had it right!!

Not sure it came about right after my divorce and hanging out with similar aged dudes that were single some of them Especially the Okinawan’s would eat shit that would make a Billy goat puke 🤮. Funny thing is, I do not get seasick…. Many times I got the award for cast iron gullet when embarked on a navy ship… Ships Captain puking, Battalion CO puking, my Master Seargent puking and I am at the mess line asking for thirds as nobody else was eating that delish breakfast…. But after my divorce the smell of rot would put me in the scuppers

Sounds like a brain injury. Are you sure your x didn’t hit you in the head with a skillet while you were asleep?

No she always did that while I was awake and complaining about the lack of seks. Though the events might tie in…. Should I apply for 100% disability due to a TBI incurred while on active duty? …. It’s you tax dollars.💸

One of the reasons I cling to my 25 year old, near bullet proof, Trace Inverters is they are not subject to the instability caused by output PWM L-C filter. They don't have PWM L-C filters. (similar design to 'Warpverter').

Tiny bit more 'buzzing' sound from ceiling fans due their stair stepped sinewave synthesis, weight, and 1985 digital design (comm controls are one step above Morse code) are the downsides. Highest switching frequency is a little over 1000 Hz for 'baby bear' transformer which helps give them low idle current consumption.

Victron does about the best at handling stability control with PWM synthesized sinewave inverters with output PWM L-C filters.

I don't think Chinese electrical engineering curriculum spends much time teaching feedback control loop stability.

Problem with PWM L-C filter happens when the inverter output is lightly loaded with short, high current crest factor AC current pulses caused by poor power factor loads of simple rectifier-filter capacitor for AC to DC conversion (like LED lights power supply, U.S market microwave ovens, and U.S. market flat screen TV's). The short peak current AC pulses twang the lightly loaded PWM filter like plucking a guitar string causing it to ring (damped oscillations) near the filter cutoff frequency as shown in second graph below.

The ringing is typically 2-4 kHz which interferes with the inverter AC output voltage regulation feedback loop. Putting R-C 'snubber' on output help a little but the snubbers also raise inverter no-load idle consumption.

My Xantrex/Trace 4024 causes LED light flicker sometimes, one set of LED cabinet strips does when my coffee maker heating element is on and others at specific dim levels. One thing I can't take is the ceiling fan buzzing, torture to me trying to sleep in a quiet house and the powers out with the fan on, it will wake me up if the power goes out in the middle of the night due to the buzzing.

Huge buzzing from the inverter itself all the time, no big deal since it's in the garage.

Can't complain 17 year old inverter came with the place and served it well, will be interesting to see how a Sol-Ark 15k compares with LED light flicker and ceiling fan buzz, although now the A/C will be powered up too even with grid down :).
