Another EG4 Dongle Issue

Hey Everyone,

First post.

I just installed a 6000xp and am having troubles with the WIFI dongle. Its serial number starts with BJxxxxxxxx. The app seems to have had a connection at some point for remote access as it has the correct number for the inverter and a very small amount of power usage information, but as of right now I can only connect locally. This may all have been a self induced problem as I did hit the factory reset on it when changing parameters in the app at one point. The TCP address seems to be directing it to the Lux power server and it’s not the address in the dongle guide. I found the dongle recovery guide for the older BA SN dongles however this one refuses to connect to 10.10.10.1 to update the tcp address. On the unit the wifi light is solid, cloud is flashing and inv is off. I’m trying to do this all from iOS.

Wifi is on a 2.4ghz band and no special characters in the name.

Thanks in advanced for any input

Just submitted a request to support and noticed your update.
Lost monitoring about 20 minutes after you posted.
Tried resetting the dongle, powered off and back on, different wifi.
Seems to be stuck trying to connect to the cloud.
Can't connect to the internal web page at 10.10.10.1 either.

EDIT: Received a reply that this are system issues.

@EG4TechSolutionsTeam
Has there been any update?
I've reset my dongle multiple times but can only connect via bluetooth.

EDIT: Problem resolved, was a network issue on my end. Still unable to reset the dongle though...

@EG4TechSolutionsTeam Bringing this back to top. I just changed out a router in my system and everything else can connect to wifi except for the 6000XP dongle. I went through all the troubleshooting steps but still get the flashing light on the cloud icon. Notably, the unit will not reset by holding the reset button. I did a full power down of the inverter and still no luck. Any advise so I can get remote monitoring back up?

Are dongle connect params available for you in the app underneath Dongle Connect?

If so, what remote port and server address is being reported?

Also, I find turning off auto-negotiate on the router and having the 2.4 GHz band set to separate Wi-Fi network with WPA/WPA2 encryption works best with these dongles.

I had the same issue with the dongle (no 10.10.10.1 and can't change the ip address)- and EG4 was super quick to send me off a replacement. (Thank you EG4!) I did have a thought though- the luxpower app has the ability to reset the ip address from the app (using a fixed dropdown). And I'm pretty sure that everything is just going over a raw tcp connection unencrypted. I'm tempted to monitor the tcp traffic and see what the luxpower commands are (with my old dongle). I'd imagine some people wouldn't mind just sending a telnet command to resolve this. Might even be able to add this to the lxp-bridge project

I got a little bored and went down a rabbit hole on this one. I de-compiled the luxpower app and mucked around in the code for a long long while. In the end I was able to get it to work- changed the IP address through a socket connection. And it's all connected now!

I think the solution here is that EG4 just needs to catch their app up to what the luxpower one does already.

Feel free to DM me if you want to take a look at the code and don't mind burning a ton of free time : )

The cool thing is that there is a fair bit of TCP commands that one can issue to their device- though risky obviously

I have 2 dongles that connect to my wifi successfully and then hang with the "cloud" led blinking forever. After investigating this I have come up with the reason. The working dongles have the remote port set correctly as shown above. The non-working units have the remote port set to some weird IP address. The drop down does not work to select the remote server. I have tried everything and can't change the remote port.
Can you tell me how to change the remote port ? Pretty sure if that is changed to the correct server the dongles will function ok.

Unforutnately, with the Wi-Fi dongles starting with BE or BJ, the remote port cannot be changed at this time.
Well, if the remote port is not correct & can't be set the dongle is useless. With the Wi-Fi dongles starting with BE or BJ how is the remote port set ? At the manufacturer ??

Invert WIFI dongles can be purchased from many sources including Amazon and E-Bay. However the dongle firmware is tailored by each inverter manufacturer to work with their inverter which in part includes the correct communications protocol (i.e. Pylontech, Growatt etc.) that the dongle uses to communicate with the inverter, usually over an RS485 connection. In addition the dongle must also be able to "call home", that is connect to the manufactures website which means the URL/IP Address is also unique (possibly along with a specific port) for each manufacturer.

Well I feel in this dongle not working thread. I purchased 2 EG4 6000XP's and both dongles are not working, flashing on cloud connect. I called signature solar where I purchased these from and after some trouble shooting they will be sending me 2 new dongles. I am wondering what is the change of 2 new dongles that came with the units failing.
