I have a EG4 6500 watt inverter. Im debating if I should use my 4000 watt champion generator tied directly to the 120 volt input or should I just get a 48 volt battery charger for my Eg4 48v battery?
I've learned a lot from the videos thats the reason I bought EG4 because of his video's.

There have been several posts on the forum indicating that some generators output will not be accepted by the inverter so a separate plug in battery charger is certainly a good work-around for that situation. However, having the generator connected directly to the inverter is probably more convenient and saves the cost of purchasing another piece of equipment.
If you have a good volt meter check the generator output voltage and if possible the frequency. If both are OK then there shouldn't be any harm in connecting to the inverter to try it. The worst that could happen is the inverter doesn't accept the gen input and then you go ahead and purchase the stand-alone charger.
