Does anyone has insights into battery prices? At this time, the prices are decreasing each month since last year or so. Are there any tariffs on the horizon in 2024 or anything else that can change the favorable trend?

  • August 1, 2024: Tariffs on solar panels will double to 50%.
  • January 1, 2025: Tariffs on semiconductors will double to 50%.
  • January 1, 2026: Tariffs on lithium-ion batteries will increase to 25%.
Trump campaigns on raising all tariffs on China (100%?), if I’m not mistaken.

That’s infuriating. There is zero benefit to these tariffs. It’s not like local manufacturers are going to start ramping up production of comparable products, and even if they did, eliminating foreign competition won’t do anything to help affordability for American consumers.

seems like there is allot of activity with companies moving back to the US. I think covid was a wake up call for the risks of doing buisiness over sees. That and the global political environment changing so fast.

With the end of the petro dollar that funded cheap goods from over seas, we really don't have a choice. Buying foreign is going to go up going forward.

I suggest if there is something you want, get it soon.

While the price of making our beloved equipment keeps falling, politicians can't resist the lure of pandering to people who don't understand economics, and think we're sticking it to a foreign power by creating tariffs on the goods they ship here. What we're doing is sticking it to the people buying those goods. That would be us. And FWIW, both major parties in the US have supported this stupidity and announced their intent to place tariffs on the types of goods we all need for our solar systems.

Personally, I purchased most of the equipment I am likely to need for the next year or so back in May-June, despite it having to sit in storage until we start putting it in service this weekend. Not regretting that one bit.

Right? The United States never built a battery in our history, until the Chinese taught us how! Very short sighted of you. This is a good thing, and if you and I own batteries, that means they are selling. Yes, US Manufacturers will build them. Or, just pay the higher price. Up to you.

I would rather not pay a higher price actually. That’s kind of the point.

Anyway, and with respect, how is this aging? Have you checked the bond market lately? The dollar might lose reserve status, which means hyperinflation gets a spot on the bingo card for the first time in American history.
