I've been thinking about switching from a 12 volt to a 48 volt system. The intention would be to assemble the cells myself in a ready-made housing. Can horizontal housings also be used in a vertical position, or will there be too much compression on the cells? The intention would be to assemble a 15kw battery with Eve MB31 314ah cells. Is there any experience with those cells? What about a 200ah BMS? What would be the best BMS unit at the moment that would work with Victron? Which housing would be good? Since it's cold here in Finland in the winter, are there any experiences with heating mats? Do they work in those? If we go to the cottage in the cold, will the cells warm up if I increase the load for a short time, without a heating mat? Although the battery would probably winter just fine even in the cold and I can heat it up without a mat when I go to the cottage? I'd like some experiences with a good vertical housing that has everything I need. should also be available from EU warehouse. The best of what is currently on sale would of course be in mind.

There are housings that are vertical and horizontal.
Best BMS that talks to Victron natively? Not sure. There are several that do it, including JK BMS, Daly, and JBD BMS, and Overkill Solar has one that does. There are also more expensive ones like Batrium and others.
The heated cells work by using the BMS. It senses when it is cold using a battery temp sensor connected to the BMS, and uses the battery power to heat the pack.
Most of the time, when researching DIY battery cases that look good and are safe, it costs more to do it that way than buying a vertical system already done. Or at least pricing comes very close.
Doing a 48V battery with Eve MB 31 314Ah cells is common, but the 280Ah cells are still cheaper, which is why many people here seem to use those (save money).

ok thanks. but is there any harm in storing and using the cells in a horizontal position? is there any reason why you can't? what does the manufacturer recommend?

To clarrify, you need an ESS variety bms of appropriate brand. Standard batery BMS's will not communicate with inverters, you need a variety of the energy storage solutions, which comes with rj45 ports.

as long as the cell can vent, some say perfectly okay. They can vent if sideways or pointing up...pointing down is a no-go, but some do that too (please don't). Not an expert
