Hi, I’m so happy I found this forum. I didn’t know how much I didn’t know.

I plan on powering a small boat with a 35A / 24v fixed pod motor using 8, 280ah LifePO4s.

The cells have to be in 2 seperate packs (4s 12v)

Should I put a 4s BMS in each pack or use one 8s BMS which will require lengthening the sensor cables and installing plugs/sockets.

I’ve seen here, that there be issues using two 4s 12v packs in series?

Are some BMSs more suitable for series connections that others?

Thanks, Mack in Brisbane Aus

if the device is a 24v device and you are buying 8cells I would really recommend you go with an 8s BMS, everything will just be "easier"...
Nothing wrong with increasing the length of the BMS balance leads, get some nice 20-22awg silicone wire and marine grade connectors (watertight crimp version) and you are good to go.
