I have a small solar set up for my RV, 300 watts of panels and a 12 volt deep cycle battery. I was running 50 foot 10 ga wires from the panels to the PWM controller in the RV.
The bear destroyed the tent trailer last summer and I replaced it with a 30 foot long RV. Now need 70 foot long wires to reach the batteries/controller in the RV The battery doesn't charge fully now.
I think the problem is voltage drop in the longer wire and the PWM controller not being able to handle it. I am going to wire the panels in series to increase the voltage but the PWM can't handle the higher voltage. I need an mppt charge controller. I am considering the Bougerv 40 amp controller with blue tooth.
I would like to leave the lead acid battery in the RV over the winter so I can run the furnace if I visit then. The Bougerv works down to -31f so it can keep the battery charged through the winter except a few days. It has hit -36 twice this winter.
The Bougerv will handle from 12 volt to 48 volt batteries so if the Midnite controller in the big system in the barn fails it could be moved there temporarily.
Any thoughts on the problem with the little system or the the Bougerv controller.
