I'm toying with the idea of replacing the dump load with 2 small relays triggered by a voltage sensing relay which short the phases on the AC side of a the rectifier.

It occurred to me over a beer that the brake doesn't create any Vsag and everything would be a lot simpler.

A couple days have passed and I gave it a shot.

It works perfectly on my little 300 watter and I can keep the brake on/off settings as close to each other as I like and there is no big voltage drop across the system that I would have traditionally compensated for (eg, my dump bumped it down 0.3v). On the contrary, what I might be losing is turbine mometum. I'm not sure how viable a brake is on large turbines which might need more momentum to keep them going in varying wind speeds. I am admittedly a turbine newbie.

My current settings are

Brake on @ 28.8v
Brake off @ 28.4v
