Build a Battery … Where to start?

Sort of like Top Balancing at 5 amps 😅
You say that and I think of top balance a ship, not only do they want it at 100% but they have to worry about each block of watts not fitting all in the same size container (or is it more/and/less watts fits in the same size) .. LOL .. That is a crazy balancing act .. would be fun software to write though ..

48 cells, JK BMS (non comms), screen and a Luyuan box.

No cells for the box, the 48 are for filling out the new battery cabinet for the shop. 128 cells total in the box.

Now, for the next several weeks, you will be constantly checking to see how far your ship moved as it does 10kts across the Pacific. Sorry :)
Most AIS tracking is based off land based receivers, so soon as it loses the last signal it doesn’t move until it hits the first site on the west coast.

At least that’s how my ship tracked, basically no movement for 10 days then 100-200 miles off thr cali coast.

To bad there is no way to make the ship circle in the middle of the ocean a few times, just for effect :)
We call that either "Delayed Again in Busan" or "Need the STCW Hours" donuts. It happens pretty often.

Yup, there are the paid subscriptions that will track all the way across the ocean, but it depends on the carrier and what systems are installed on the bridge. The free versions just track when they're close to land and will usually give you an ETA to the next port.

Now, if you want to spend $$Victron/Midnite$$ levels of money on your own container, they do have GPS and satellite modules you can affix to the side (where the little vent cover sits) that can tell you where it is anywhere in the world, temperature, and humidity in up to 5 spots inside the container plus exterior readings.

Nothing like getting a nastygram email from shoreside saying a box has been unplugged too long and is out of range... when we offloaded it 2 days earlier. 🤨

Just wanted to chime in and say this is a helpful thread. I have 48 LFP (LF304 x 16 and MB31 x 32) batteries and three Apexium boxes I'm preparing to assemble and the info here has been great. Please keep sharing and include plenty of product links and add some setup photos!

One question...this thing is going to be heavy, so I'll have to do the install in the garage. I'm in the process of top balancing the cells on my rear patio. How is everyone dealing with weight? Any special (locking!) casters needed? Are these boxes kept stationary after the cells are installed?
