Can a charge controller be used to charge one battery from another higher voltage battery bank.

As the title states i would like to use a left over fully programable Plasmatronics 60 amp PWM charge controller to charge a 12v battery from a 24v bank? Sure i could hook up solar to the controller and charge it that way but i don't want to mess with a complete system.
Keen to hear reason why it will or will not work.

Thanks

James

It should work just fine though i have not heard of anybody doing exactly that.

Make sure you make a video... (just kidding!).
I might have to buy a cheap charge controller and see what happens. These are quite expensive units.

Just make sure you do not exceed the unit's Vin max.

It will be an interesting experiment, what will limit the current?

There are a few threads where forum members have connected power supplies to their solar charge controllers. Is it ideal? Maybe not. But reports are that it works. You just have to make sure the volts coming in are high enough to initiate the charge on the target battery.
