Can a Generator only charge the batteries and not the home.

It it possible your generator is changing speed or glitching in some other way, and the GB/FB sees it go out of range and stops using it or something like that? Sure sounds weird...

Sure, it's possible. However I received no alerts from the FB when this would occur, which makes things even worse! The generator was brand new at the time. 20kW Cummins standby generator. I could use it at 10% of it's rating and this would still occur.

I know there is an alert for the generator, because I would receive it before I got the dry contacts hooked up and was starting the generator manually. W015 I believe.

That's because there's only one bidirectional AC <--> DC inverter, and it can't be simultaneously charging the batteries and boosting the generator capacity by discharging the batteries.

You need another converter, which is the CVs. Not sure why SS tech support didn't know this.

Why couldn't an "AC Charge" feature work for the generator? Or am I misunderstanding what "AC Charge" does with the grid?

That's really confusing, they seem to hint that it might work, but then call it out for grid use only. There's some intersection of the hardware's ability to do what you want, the software's implementation of it, the marketing literature, and the actual functional documentation (user manual, etc), and I'm not sure even EG4/SS/LUX know (for a particular firmware release) how.

Honestly, you have a solution with the CVs, I'd call it done and move on.
