Can someone help? Im having trouble trying to power a window air conditioner in my rv. The ac is rated at 670 watts. I have a 1200peak 900 continuous generator brand new from oriellys and it seems to keep throwing the circuit breaker on the generator after running with compressor on for max 3 min. Sometimes withing seconds of thr compressor starting. The air con doesn't have a ground on the receptacle because someone must have snapped it of. Im not sure if that would have any effect on performance.
I also tried on a used 5000watt generator i just purchased with the same results. Second question is. I have a 2000 inverter and 1 deep cycle battery. Wondering if I could plug the air conditioner into the 2000 watt inverter while connecting the deep cycle to a 10amp battery charger that would be powered either generator?Would that be at all possible? I would appreciate some feedback before I make anything worse. This is rough... Just want to cool my family down...Thanks!

Can you post a link to the new 5000W generator you just purchased, and the make / model of the aircon?

And now the 1200 watt GB on is leaking oil from somewhere. It n.v is tje front right corner, its in one of the pics.Im not so sure about that either.

And the 5000 doesn't seem to be getting fuel because now it won't even start up again and the spark plug is dry... I just got it yesterday it was running then. Tried everything simple. Drain and refill gas tank, clean spark plu , starting fluid, choke circuit breaker is on, switch is on.... all the simple things I've done I think...

If your aircon is leaking oil it probably has a perforation in the evap / condenser / piping and that is that. I'll leave it for the local fridgie to comment but me thinks time for a new one, it might even account for the over current trip of even the 4000W generator.

Misread, restart!

That 4000W generator looks like a plain old spinning job, not an inverter model. Assuming it really is '4000W' it should have no trouble running that aircon at all. Turn the aircon off for 10 minutes but have the generator running so it is up to operating temperature and happy then turn the aircon back on. If it trips out after 3 minutes I'd be looking at the load on the aircon, ie just how hot is the air it is trying to cool and what's the room size. Failing any problems there I'd be putting a clamp meter on one of the current carrying wires to it and see what it really is up to.

Also working on the assumption that the aircon has had basic maintenance, ie the fins on the evaporator and condenser aren't completely gunged up.

If a '4000W' generator won't run the unit, and assuming the generator is actually running reasonably, there's no chance in hell of a '2000W' inverter doing it.

It's the corner of the generator thays leaking. I think it's a bad air con.
