can you charge a 48v system with a 12v alternator? Other questions?

charging with this Blue Sea ACR ?
Will this ultimately fry the alternator?
Will I need to upgrade alternator? Possible dual alternator?
Will I need a Balmer Voltage Regulator or Victron ? (if so which is better?)
Anything else I should know?
Goal is to charge 1000AH to 1200AH I'd like the best alternative, please?
I'm guessing the best alternative (most expensive) is a 48v 100amp alternator?
Guessing the cheapest was keep current alternator and add ACR?
Another possible alternative, upgrade Alternator and ACR?
There is also warranty considerations

That's a lot of questions.

First, to charge a 48 Volt system from a 12V alternator would require a boost converter & Charger of some type. This might be hard to find. (A boost converter is totally different than an ACR or Voltage regulator). If you use a boost converter, make sure the power capabilities are low enough to protect your alternator.

1000AH is a *lot* what is this for? Are you looking at Lead acid or LiFePO4 (or something else)? You might find a 48 volt alternator that will dirrectly charge a lead-acid battery, but you will probably have to put a 48Volt DC-DC charger in for charging LiFePO4 battery.

170 4x4 sprinter
i want 2000 watt Incinolet
1500 watt bosch water heater (possible to go diesel here too) link
1800 watt stove-top (can go diesel webasto if i had to )
electric heated floors (diesel choice was $12000 lol)
ideally 13500 btu rooftop air
400 watt loft ac so i can sleep in the heat
may have to go dual alt, may have to step down voltage
micro
fridge
etc...
what do you recommend

I was looking into this also... I found Sterling Pro Charge Ultra (does 12v to 48V) battery to battery charger... If being used, you'll need a alternator regulator at minimum... Probably better upgrade to a balmar alternator with external reg, as they are designed to pump out amps for long periods. https://www.sterling-power-usa.com/SterlingPower12volt-to-48volt-batterytobatterycharger.aspx

I talked to Alan Nation at nations alts say they been testing a 100 amp 48v alternator, with a balmer. Testing it for a year. But hell $3000. cheaper suggestions

The 12V Balmar I was looking at was $1700ish if I remember right... You change out your alternator for a 12v balmar one, then combine with the Sterling unit... Balmar charges start battery at 12v, then Sterling converts to 48V and charges house bank...
