Hello,

I am currently considering building a 24 or 48V battery bank for my home. I would use a Victron Multiplus to try to maximize PV self-consumption.

However I would also like to be able to charge the battery bank from a 12V source. (12V from my nissan leaf. ~1000-1500W)

What would I need for that?

In general the Victron Scematic, just with a charger (with 12V source) instead of the MPPT Solar array.

Thank you

that does look nice. However is there a cheaper option available?

Thanks

Since you have to buy this anyway, might be worthwhile looking for a 400V to 48V DC-DC converter/charger that can tap the pack directly without need for the car to be "on" to run the onboard DC-DC 400V to 12V converter. Although safer, I find 12V annoying to work with at these power levels due to the massive cabling and interconnection expenses. I've never looked for a 400V converter like that; not sure it exists but there is a market for such a thing. If the extension cord to your leaf was at 400V it could be 50 feet long and only 14AWG!

Not that ive done it but any SMPS 12v power supply that works with 240vac can probably take 400v DC on its input. Slight investigation required, but the cheapest of such devices are dirt cheap. Like $20.
