Hi
If I had a camper van with 48v 20kwh Victron system. Is there a way to connect my house to the shorepower plug and have the Van supplement/charge the batteries in house house? Is there a good way to do this so the van batteries aren't always idle?

I understand that the van batteries has a finite charge cycle life, but depending on how often you use your van, this might be ok as batteries will get cheaper over time.

thanks
Jack

Rewire your house to add a Generator Transfer Switch like this:

Assuming your camper van has a 120VAC output, you can plug it right in.

In other words,
VAN battery (DC) -> Van Inverter (DC->AC) -> long extension cord (AC) -> Transfer switch (AC) -> Home Battery Charger (AC->DC) -> home Battery (DC)

Since there are two AC/DC conversions, you'll lose some efficiency, but this is probably easier and safer than trying to run long 48VDC cables and using alligator clips 😀

Need details on your house system. I have my trailer back-feeding a micro inverter that is tied into one of my arrays. Works great.

Yes

Yes

We need to know as much about your van & electrical system that you are willing to divulge in order to be of much help. DC ,,, Distance Will Matter.

Also what comes to mind is;

1) Efficiency
2) Storage / Use Patterns
3) Economics
4) Code Compliance
5) Safety

So YMMV 😳

I have DIY 2 Promasters & these van electrical systems have “surprisingly” become a bit of a hobby for me.
