What's in a title?
Great question. The passcode is automatically generated overseas....does that mean if you put it on a VPN and tell it it's in China it will start working again?

Don't know because the info was so Vague. I asked and the distributor told me he did not know but he is getting reports from EG4 installers.Which ones?
Get rid of your phone and computer then!Instead of handling this "in the courts", the firmware was weaponized and aimed at ... all of us!
Remind me not to buy any of these brands that:
- phone home, require OTA updates and/or internet access
- can't be operated fully off-grid
- have weaponized at any time
I'll stick with a totally off-grid make/model ...
I really hope this is not another James started rumor like the last one on Sol-Ark not offering warranties for certain customers.9 pages in and no proof this even happened. Starting to reek of BS more and more.
James is too busy throwing stones vs trying to take care of his own business!I really hope this is not another James started rumor like the last one on Sol-Ark not offering warranties for certain customers.
Won't somebody support the American middle-man!Stop
Buying Grey or black market gear.
The implication is that Sol-Ark is behind it. That puts them in a very bad light. How is this business suicide? It does not affect genuine Sol-Ark users, and the grey market buyers have already proven they won't buy Sol-Ark.
A few solar groups on Facebook are talking about it.Has anybody from here been effected by this?
I haven't seen any post stating that.
Well if they use the inverters to power their internet gateways....Don't know because the info was so Vague. I asked and the distributor told me he did not know but he is getting reports from EG4 installers.
The Deye thing is the same way. It's kind of weird that thousands of Deye Inverters are off line and their is not much being said.
We got tons of owners right here on the forum and yet no posts.
You should share how, start a new thread to make it easy to find for others.I have a Deye inverter and can confirm that it was "bricked" last night. Fortunately I don't rely on it, and it was easy to bypass
My Solis doesn't. No internet connectivity
IANAL, but I wonder if you could sue Deye under the CFAA. You legally purchased a physical asset, which contains a computer. They have used unauthorized access to that computer you own to cause you damages. They can protect your interests by not allowing sales of split phase deye inverters in rhe US. Which they already do.
But disabling inverters via the internet for this reason seems more like a cyber attack than a company protecting its interests.
So, what was the fix? Remove the dongle? Change your internet password?I have a Deye inverter and can confirm that it was "bricked" last night. Fortunately I don't rely on it, and it was easy to bypass, but I can imagine some are in much worse shape. They could have at least given some pre-warning.
Unless they're imminent safety concerns, I think it would be illegal in most places to turn off someone's power without warning, which is what this amounts to for those who rely on it.
Leave it be. If EG4 wants to publicly badmouth Deye/Sol-Ark with possibly erroneous statements.. let them. The courts can figure it out later.I think @Will Prowse or some other moderator needs to bring the “back it up” hammer on this. One screenshot without context and paragraph is really stirring the pot
Nothing on Reddit all day and now we have a guy saying it's easy to bypass. So, what was the fix? Remove the dongle? Change your internet password?
Yet another reason to stay on the grid. Pocos are regulated and would never get away with something like this.Unless they're imminent safety concerns, I think it would be illegal in most places to turn off someone's power without warning, which is what this amounts to for those who rely on it.
Also another reason not to try and bypass the legal distributors of a product.Yet another reason to stay on the grid. Pocos are regulated and would never get away with something like this.
Would you happen to have the ability to connect it through a VPN and tell it that's it on vacation somewhere else?Just for clarification, my solar is grid tied microinverters. The inverter was just being used essentially as a UPS, with the batteries charged from the grid, so it was easy to bypass it.

That might be possible, but I'll have to look into how.Would you happen to have the ability to connect it through a VPN and tell it that's it on vacation somewhere else?
Yeah he bypassed it literally by taking it out of his system, not bypassing the Deye 5 digit lockout.Nothing on Reddit all day and now we have a guy saying it's easy to bypass.
For the love of God I really hope that the Facebook stuff does not get removed again and it becomes another fake story pushed by James.
It's been a long time since I've played with networking stuff in detail. The first thing that comes to mind is OpenVPN and DD-WRT but there's a good chance that's outdated. That might be possible, but I'll have to look into how.
