CHINA kills all non Sol-Ark branded DEYE unit in the USA this morning.

I thought it was said you had to cycle power to get another 5 tries, but I could be wrong. If someone said that, they could have been wrong. At 101 pages, I am not going back to find out. :giggle:
Doesn't really matter.

A developer has a fix, people are paying a fee to get their multi thousand dollar inverters running again, it's a win for those that had zero hope of getting their inverters operational and most of all, it isn't lining the pockets of Deye or Sol-Ark as a reward

We don't know that "A developer has a fix". People "may" be paying or they are running a scam. Did these folks that claim they received an unlock code that worked make a previous post early on in this thread claiming their inverter had been bricked, along with pictures/proof

We also don't know "it's a win for those that had zero hope of getting their inverters operational and most of all, it isn't lining the pockets of Deye or Sol-Ark as a reward."

We also don't know who actually developed the unlock code process and what their affiliation if any is with Deye or Sol-Ark.

Bottom line; there is much we do not know and little to no actual proof for much of what has been posted in this thread. Don't just refer to a previous post, provide the link/page/entry number, in other words legitimize your posts/comments.

Why has no one who has received the so called "unlock" code not posted it here along with their inverter serial number.

I can see why people may not want to post a SN. I also have nothing against someone recouping their costs to developing something. However, I do question just how difficult it would be to figure out the hash using common algorithms.

proof enough for me https://streamable.com/q2xbr3

The link was only provided after my comments. Why was it not provided at the time the inverter was unlocked. How many folks would take the time to video the "unlock" process when they receive an unlock code. This is a setup if there ever was one.

@morepwr did not ever post any pictures of an inverter that was bricked. All his contributions on this forum (all threads) are just this thread. @morepwr did post several times that @morepwr inverter was bricked, provided information as prodded by other members but did not provide any pictures of a bricked inverter (no proof). @morepwr did not ever provide any information substantiating a bricked inverter claim. @morepwr just played along with the "woe is me, I am a victim" parts of this thread.

@morepwr is a Used car salesman at best.

If I need to provide an apology for being harsh (and possibly inaccurate) I will once I am proven wrong.

That doesn't work.

The inverter gives you a limited number of tries. Not sure how many but it's small. (Presumably that's a global, not a session, count, and also presumably it will permanently brick beyond unlock code function once the count is exhausted.)

Even if the five "digits" are decimal and it's five because the variable is signed 16 bit (so only nonzero positives work), that's 32,766 codes. So even if the try count is generous, you could still be in the "one chance in a thousand you don''t perma-brick it" neighborhood.
Someone earlier in this thread posted that the limit on tries was three. It was also said that after power cycling the inverter, one had three tries again. Based on this information, I calculated that it would take about three minutes total to try three times and then power cycle the inverter (a minute to enter three 5-digit codes, and two minutes to power cycle...probably takes longer at first until one gets efficient with the menus). At that rate, going 12-hours per day would take nearly half a year, hence my earlier statement. The tedium involved would only be worthwhile to the poorest church mouse.

Oh, and I was counting 99,999 potential codes. I'm not sure why you think only 32,766 would suffice.

Post some proof.

For real, take a video of before and go around the inverter a bit so we can see some identifying marks and then apply the code to see if it starts working again.

THEN go on the SOLARK official response and reference the video.

I dont need to prove anything , your welcome to think whatever you want , I'm just glad to get my inverter running again and anyone else in the same situation now has a solution .

You are absolutely right, you do not need to prove anything.
I am suspicious in part because you have been a member since October 13th 2020 but have only posted 15 messages, all on this thread. You do not appear to have participated in any way anywhere else on this forum. I would assume as a Deye owner you would have posted messages on other threads concerning Deye inverters. There are a number of threads related to Deye inverters on this forum.

I do hope that @Will Prowse and the Administrators of this site can at least validate the legitimacy of the participants in this thread.
I assume that the backend database keeps track of logins and the activity of members. Particularly member searches and the threads they are interested in. It all seems to convenient. I do tend to be suspicious, maybe overly so....

We all saw @morepwr 's original post early in this thread - asking for some help with his Deye - not knowing what was going on with it.
They and I chatted a bit on PM and he reached out to the guy with the code generator - now has his Deye running again - credible enough for me.
At least they took the time to post they got the Deye going again - so other members in similar situation know there is a solution, if they want.

Seems odd that so many that are unaffected by this are so concerned about it. If it was a scam, don't you think someone would have posted about it by now?

Yes, my inverter is now unlocked, and one thing that I learned in the process that might concern others is that the lock appears to have been initiated by remotely initiating an F22 error, which Deye lists in their documentation as "F22. Tz_EmergStop_Fault. Remotely shutdown. 1, it tells the inverter is remotely controlled."

From what I can tell, this error code / condition exists in all inverters built by Deye, and the only solution I've seen to fix this is to "contact your installer", which certainly means trying to convince the manufacturer to continue allow you to use the hardware that you purchased.

From what I can tell, this firmware is the only firmware that actually allows a user to enter a code yourself to recover your hardware. I assume there is some other backdoor that allows the manufacturer to reset the code on the rest.

If you look at the license cost of IDA pro (around 7000 USD per year) plus the time involved to understand the firmware and how certain things work, I hope you do understand that something like this can not be done for free, especially if it's just for others and not for an own bricked inverter.
:)
I'm happy you provide this service

Anyone on here who is interested should consider using Ghidra, the NSA's free alternative to IDA Pro.

It should be doable to reverse engineer the Deye firmware

There's also Cutter. The learning curve on these tools is steep, but there are a lot of resources for people who are truly interested.

And yeah, don't ever connect your infrastructure to any cloud service. I don't at home or business.
