CHINA kills all non Sol-Ark branded DEYE unit in the USA this morning.

Sol ark CEO was not nice to me at the solar conference. I'll never forget. Instant accusations that I am being paid under the table by EG4. Smug attitude and tone. And my sol ark 15K video got more views than any other channel. No appreciation or thank you. Just instant confrontation.

I do like some of the employees at sol ark. One is here on the forum and is a really good guy. But that CEO was not nice. Just a bad vibe.

Really made me instantly hate sol ark 😂 thought I should ignore it and review them anyways to help everyone, but I really just don't like what I've been hearing about them here on the forum.
People who make unfounded accusations are generally GUILTY of the exact things they accuse you of.

Well I will say this is the most exciting thing I've read in the solar world all year! I live off grid with a Sol Ark 15k last night I unplugged my dongle and I've only ever accepted one update about 2 years ago for the unit.

Also battery communications are over rated if your BMS works properly and you have the parameters safely setup. So who cares which inverter won't communicate with whoever batteries. That's like saying I can't fill up at Shell Gas because the pump handle is a different color.
ha ha ha tell that to the sailors that fill their cars up from the "green pump" here in japan because its cheaper per liter.... only to have their cars stall a block later when the diesel reaches the injectors on their gasoline engine.

this is the important part. if each component is doing its job properly then they do not need to speak to each other.

I just asked my friend of a friend of a friend, And they said, “no.”

Offline, dongle not attached.
Thanks for following up. No we know it wasn't a killswitch coded in to the main firmware.

Makes me wonder even more if those using the dongle could go through a VPN to remove the lock.

It’s the firmware that bothers me.
You can take apart physical devices and see if the design is good, or if there are problems lurking.
Firmware from China? No source code? infrequent bug fixes? no thanks.

Honestly, that was my deciding factor for going Victron.
They have bugs, and they fix them, and they document them.
And the president of the company is intimately involved in the beta firmware development process.
While I agree with you on the firmware issue Victon just doesn't build an inverter that meets my needs. They have just begun to build one box split phase inverters but they're just to small. If you buy a pair of their larger inverters you have no redundancy. Doubling that just costs too much. That's the only reason I don't have Victron.

That’s called “Mission Creep”. If you’re here, you have it😂
Why spend three times as much just to have something that will last 20+ years without any intervention. What would I do to occupy my time? This IS a DIY forum for Pete’s sake!

No, I’ll take my savings and invest so I have funds to upgraded in the future to the latest geeked out equipment and brag about it to timselectic.

Totally get it. They are an engineering company selling products designed by engineers for engineers.
They frequently miss bigger market trends like AIOs, and completely ignore the US home market.
But they fulfill my needs nicely.

Is the reverse true? Will Sol ark shut down Sol ark inverters running outside the US? I mean, if they cry for exclusive US rights then they should also prevent their inverters infringing on Deye in other countries, right?

Let me guess, they have no problem infringing on Deye.
They might, as they have been selling in Denmark..
Btw sol-ark cannot do this, only deye

I am in Panama and the one with the dongle is blocked and the one without dongle is working fine.
This is the second member to confirm a locked out Deye today,
and the first outside of US jurisdiction.
Also the first with both cases - a locked and non-locked Deye at one location. Tells us a few things.

So first up - why would a Deye in Panama be locked out, the SolArk contract terms include Panama?

@PanGirl - can you try the VPN discussed earlier - tell us if it works or not?

edit and welcome to the DIY Solar Forum

Just want to clarify/verify the Dongle connection on the Sol-Ark.
I still have my dongle connected using cable, not wifi. Sol-Ark has connected to the inverter in the past to help with issues.
I have Solar Assistant. I make my changes through SA.
SA uses the can connection to talk to the inverter.
But, the Sol-Ark app uses the dongle to communicate. I'm assuming that changes made on the app actually go to Sol-Ark servers and then sent to the inverter?
Is it just as simple as just removing the dongle? The inverter won't start whining?

I always thought the security of EG4 was lousy only needed a serial number to gain remote access. This shows how China has been out pacing the US on lot of fronts. This is a good example why don't leave things connected to the internet.

Lateinamerika and South America also belong to the contract BUT we bought a 230V Deye from Deye directly because 2 years ago only the 110V was exclusive to SolArk this was allowed to sell at that time.

I will try to connect with the VPN and change Country

interesting,
yes please try it, and report back.
I think we are all eager to learn more about this situation.

Since the Deyes are grid interactive the Dept of Home Land security could view this action as a cyber terrorist act against the US grid. Wouldn't that be interesting if Sol Ark was investigated as part of a potential scheme.
I’ll have to speak with my governor and soon to be Homeland Security secretary, Kristi Noem. I’ve been wanting to have a meeting with her for sometime.

That would be Ray from Texas. And yes, he has 3 installed at his house.
Purchased before the agreement of exclusivity with Sol-Ark.

And I wouldn't call stalking him and threatening his family , after an honest review of an under performing product, a blowout.

I still follow his youtube channel. I'm sure that he'll post something about this, if it turns out to be real.
Correct ray has them, already contacted him, but he doesn't use the dongles at all

How is a unit inside you’re home an attack on the grid?
