And they only give 3 attempts, what happens after 3? Paperweight?

Dumb ? Have you tried disconnecting the dongle and rebooting?

Were these Deye units supplied before the deal between SolArk and Deye?

edit: You may want to contact those other customers and have the dongle removed asap ! at least until you know what is going on.

some other installers here in PR have attempted different combinations and i think it resets the counter. disconnecting dongle does nothing inverter had to be turned off, this is really crazy what they have done.

Well that's good news. Just need a blackhat to figure out to connect to it and hit it with a brute force attack, or something along those lines.

That stinks. Do you know it any of them tried the VPN approach?

Agreed, fucked up is how I would describe it.

The pass code could be unique to each inverter. Maybe an algorithm applied to the serial number.

once the inverter has the screen you basically lose all control over everything dont even know if the network works.

this will basically crush hundreds of busineses (electricians, private installers, small distributors...) here in PR when customers start to take action against them.

Are you able to try a VPN to a country not on the list?

Do you have the serial numbers of the two you installed that aren't working and compared to any of the others? Wonder if there is some indication in serial number why those two are different.

There's been a few posts attempting to present an equivalent scenario. Here's mine.

I've purchased a few hundred streaming movies on the VuDu (Fandango at Home) platform. My son in Japan was watching them on ROKU using a VPN. Now it no longer works. That's disappointing, but fair. If I moved back to Canada, I would no longer have access to these movies. According to the EULA, I don't own the movies. I only purchased a license to watch them within the USA.

Not that I agree with what Deye has done. IMO, it would be reasonable to do this to new installations, but not existing ones.
I would imagine there are a few of us here that find "purchasing a license" to also be immoral bullcrap. We probably don't want to get into a large argument about how we've allowed digital rights to fall so far.

So you are a dye seller? Where are you getting your units from?
Looking at your posts you are comparing the price of Solark’s to Dye.
What is your business web site so we can check out if you’re legitimate or not?

try a vpn how? this was a kill switch once the screen is there no vpn will do anything you can even remove the dongle and the screen remains only thing will work someone that knows how to connect to these chipsets to retrieve the password from somewhere.
Assuming the unit is still connected to the internet, it may see its in a different country and remove the block. Its worth a try, better then doing nothing.

I wonder if the Deye will still work as SCC ? AC and DC lights are still green.

Those installers may want to ...(edit: delete comment before I get myself in trouble with the law),,, before the claims start coming in.

It would be nice if that was the case and not simply worst case. that would show a lot of thought on Deyes's side, but it still makes me question why they would have built that capability into the units to begin with.
They might not have built it in originally. If the dongle is connected, I assume it can update some parts (if not all parts) of the software without user intervention.

I am from canada .my inverter was killer.phoned sol ark and was told they nothing to do with shut down. .waiting for deye to open up tonight to hopefully get some answer.
Welcome to the DIY Solar Forum @newagedrywall.rp@gmail thanks for posting the information.
Can I ask, is your unit a SolArk or Deye or other branded label?
how long have you owned the inverter?

You would have to put the wifi connection it's currently using through a VPN connection in a country that isn't affected.

Have you rebooted the unit once the dongle is removed?
I'm not surprised unplugging it didn't work, they are likely writing something to the memory inside.

Another thought, do you need the dongle to flash firmware? If not would it be possible to flash an old firmware version.
