CHINA kills all non Sol-Ark branded DEYE unit in the USA this morning.

So it's a money grab for Sol Ark because their sales are in the shitter...

What are you basing your comments on?

They are a private company. They don’t report their earnings or revenue anywhere I have seen.

So does this mean it was an attack now, and not just Deye doing it themselves, or do we know for sure?
I consider it an attack, either way.
There are thousands of forum members here in lower 48 of USA (and alaska and hawaii), and none have come to report any issue (yet).
Do we know what the USA member had, exactly, and where it was acquired? Wonder if they are using a VPN and pointing it to PR or something.
Just that one, that I know of. And no, I don't know what their setup was.
Any estimate how many people from PR are/were affected, and what the workaround, if any, has been for them to repair? Roll back a firmware, then disconnect from internet/wifi? Seeing how people say they should get a VPN and point the device to some other location...but if we know that PR is not good, where do they point it to? Mainland USA?
No exact count, but it seems like several.
The only fix would be a 5 digit code.
No work around, after it's locked, is my expectation.

Just bringing this back up since it seems like most people missed this.
I definately missed that - is that a facebook post?
Sol-Ark is saying "we have no control over Deye, but here's a discount if you want a replacement".
Doesn't the message say to call Sol-Ark in USA on the Deye inverter screen?
You telling me Deye did this just to mess with customers, to piss off Sol-Ark, or is this an elaborate finger pointing from Sol-Ark saying, "look - we told them we would sue them...they decided to put our number on the screen...and oops our sales are booming" or something?

Thank yes I knew Deye is the OEM...I just don't know what other brands use Deye behind the label. I don't know that there is a definitive list anywhere, but my guess is that Sol-Ark will try to sue Deye to find out what other companies they have re-labeled their devices for.
I doubt that you would have to sue for a list. They have no reason to hide their distributors.
The well known ones are Sol-Ark and Sunsynk.
But their are a few others.

The only fix would be a 5 digit code.
So that I understand here...is the messaging on the Deye inverters to enter a 5 digit code, and in order to acquire one, they need to call Sol-Ark in the USA?
Does Sol-Ark have a 5 digit code they are offering people for a fee, or are they offering to sell people an entirely new sol-ark branded inverter?
This seems to be heading quickly into criminal territory. I'm sure Sol-Ark asked their attorneys before doing this. At least I hope they did. If Deye bricks inverters - many more than the few mentioned above - there is a big class action heading their way.
Also people are saying that the inverters are bricked, but the screen is working. So what does or does not work? It obviously displays a screen. Did someone (deye?) push an update that then bricked it on a certain date/time, or was it inside the firmware all along, and it was just remotely triggered? Is it happening to those deye inverters that were self-installed only, or professionally installed ones, too?

Not to pay for a license. To buy a Sol-Ark branded Deye.
So the 5 digit code is a deye code/bribe to get it unlocked, which Sol-Ark doesn't even have the power to sell someone to get unbricked?
Has anyone successfully gotten a 5 digit code to unbrick, and if so, from who? Should we do a gofundme and have forum members all pitch in a dollar to pay for the code for someone who is bricked, and report back? Legal defense fund?

The 5 digit code is what you enter if deye gives you a code. Probably for the ones that bought before the agreement or other odd problems.

The contact sol-ark is to buy a licensed product for your area and to return the unit in question to where you got it.

It appears from looking at some Youtube videos, the dongles support updating the firmware via http, like most manufactures do, so if you can find an older bin file ( I would guess for the hmi / display ) and reload that, it may get things unstuck

Almost all Hybrids have these remote features.

Also, there is the Deye / Solar-Man cloud, it would be interesting to make and account and let it pair to the dongle and see if from that end, firmware could be pushed.

I would expect something like the above will pop-up in a few days....

CNC machines have the same issue with them being able to disable ore enable features. And the features are all in the machine.
Where I used to work, we told the service tech after buying a machine that we wished we had opted for a feature. It was like $10K. They said "no problem, it's in there, pay the $10k, we just have to turn it on". Machine has wifi, they connected, and we had the feature.

I've found the post on LinkedIn and shared about it. I have many friends in Puerto Rico who have suffered greatly.

Same in hospitals with high-tech gear like X-ray machines, etc. Even the management software like Cerner and EPIC - the code is all there, pay fee, enable.

"We don't want to talk to anyone, but keep selling ". lol
More likely sunday is web site update day and they're posting something major on their home page about this. Also people may be hitting it a lot to find the phone number for USA since not displayed in the pop up on the screen.
What if all this was an elaborate sales ploy. Hmmm.

Is that true? Been on the forum for 9 months or so and not really actively seeking that information out, but in passing I never knew not to buy them. I didn't know that Deye was behind Sol-Ark, or that other brands used Deye until about a week ago. I think I only learned this because I was looking at a SUNPOWERGOLD and someone said that there is a company that makes these and the PowMr brand and they just install whatever is requested of the OEM, and someone then went on the thread to say 'just like Deye'. I think when I was also trying to buy a Lion Energy setup someone mentioned that was a Deye inverter a utah company used and Sol-Ark sued them and won, so I wasn't even sure the company existed until about 3 weeks ago, frankly. Definately heard of Sol-Ark a lot on the forums 9 months ago, but now mostly SS/EG4
Those that have been in the solar field either consumers or installer have known for some time about the Exclusive agreement Sol-Ark had with Deye.

They have been going after grey market sellers for years but evidently Deye decided it was easier to curb demand than supply.

So it's a money grab for Sol Ark because their sales are in the shitter...

So they've ransomwared Deye split phase in Canada and Puerto Rico. And then they have the balls to offer a discount on a massively marked up Deye that's "authorized"? Not even chance of an unlock code. She's dead Jim.

That said I've seen same Stockholm syndrome from eg4 owners so maybe runs in the industry.

I'm guessing they haven't done this to US mainland units because there would be lawsuits for sure. In Canada and Puerto Rico you prob have little rights or recourse.

This is not a surprise.

People have known not to buy or use Deye spilt phase Inverters in US for years.
Not quite.
People knew that they couldn't buy them in the states, because Sol-Ark had the agreement for local distribution. And if they wanted one at the fair price, they had to purchase them from overseas.
But Noone knew that this attack was going to happen. Because there was never any information (or warning) provided to the customers, before the attack.

In China, this is probably not a crime to brick inverters. Here in the US, SolArk probably says they have nothing to do with the ransomware. But people who got attacked by this ransomware can buy a new inverter from them at a discount price, that is they can come and rescue these people from the blackout.

Yes, but that's not going to happen. Because Sol-Ark would rather sell you a new unit.
Does Sol-Ark have a 5 digit code they are offering people for a fee, or are they offering to sell people an entirely new sol-ark branded inverter?
They will only sell you a new unit, with their sticker on it.
Unless you received this message on one of their units (by mistake) , then they will unlock it for you.
Is it happening to those deye inverters that were self-installed only, or professionally installed ones
Both

It won't be a single, universal code.
It will be different for each individual (by serial number) unit.
