CHINA kills all non Sol-Ark branded DEYE unit in the USA this morning.

codes are unique to each inverter...
They are using the same mechanism used to brick stolen inverters
I understand that. Big change the release code somehowe is related to the unique inverterID / serial number.
If one has a couple of release codes and corresponding serial numbers, it might be possilbe to reverse engineer the way the codes were created.

I think Deye is stuck legally, If they release the code, it's equal to admit that they did the cyber attack that killed a few people. That's may be why that SolArk doesn't want to have anything to do with this access code.
If they turn it around quickly. They can blame it on a glitch update, or something else. The longer that they leave it as is, the more responsibility they have to accept.

If I were Deye and Sol-Ark... I'd probably go dark and complete re-brand and wait a few months for a new launch.
I laughed out loud reading this.
Bro, Deye ain't going dark over this.
I'd bet not a single Deye employee even knows this discussion is going on.

I own a Deye inverter. I know first hand about Deye. Deye does not give a F about their customers. Quite literally. I'll bet they have never heard of this forum. They rarely even answer their support email.

Some of you should try messaging Deye support service@deye.com.cn just to get an idea of how little they care. Want to know what it's like being a Deye customer? Pretend you own a Deye inverter and ask a question. lol

True, but a leak on how the code is generated or a code generator might happen.
Without access to one of the devices, it would be difficult to develop something. Most of the time, a code like this is based on a piece of hardware/serial number/some combination in the device itself. I'd have little qualms about giving it a go, question then is if Deye found out, do they come after the person/persons who wrote it if they happen to be successful?

When did Sol-Ark get their distribution deal - anyone know definitively?
2018. The following text can be found in the lawsuit against Lion Energy.

Plaintiff also asserts that, in or about 2018, it entered into a Non-Compete Agreement with NingBo Deye Inverter Technology Co. Ltd. (“Deye”), and that, pursuant thereto, Plaintiff had exclusive rights in the United States and Canada (the “Territory”)

man, you are realy clueless....

a cyber attack means to destroy
they haven't destroyed, they disabled their software that the hardware uses because it breaches their EULA
Even if the EULA mentions regional restrictions, it does not automatically grant DEYE the right to take punitive action such as bricking devices. Enforcement would typically require legal processes, not unilateral disabling.

all these were bought through third party sellers, doing grey imports...
If anyone should sue anyone, it would be the buyers suing the seller as they are the only one the buyer has a contract with

Unable to spell "really" and claims people who never signed an EULA are bound by it, but accuses others of being clueless. :fp2 lol
I own a Deye inverter, I never signed any EULA with Deye, and there was no screen like "Agree to the following terms" when I started my inverter. So everyone spouting here about Deye's EULA and pretending customer's agreed to anything are the ones who are clueless.

He clearly said it was his belief. That alone says "I can't say for sure, but it's what I think"
That's different than the many people who are saying things as if fact, when it also is really only their belief.

Say what? I have clearly said it was my opinion that Sol-Ark was involved and I gave my reasons for that opinion. And yet he claimed I was just speculating. And he lumped everyone who had that same opinion as "Sol-Ark haters".

Hanwha/Q Cells is the only company working towards 100% Made In USA/NA. This is from the raw silicon to every single component. Not importing certain parts like every single other company. There is ZERO companies that produce the backing material for instance and so Q CELLS is currently building the manufacturing facility for it in Georgia. That tells you right there all the other companies have to be importing that from another country. Engineer775 had a video of a supposed "made in USA" solar company manufacturer and he blurred out all the boxes of imported materials except one of the frames showed the imported material. There was a thread on this site showing this.
Thank You! That's the kind of info that I am looking for. I don't think that the panel has to be 100% USA, only around the 90%+ range. I wonder what the IRS says about the qualification for the 40% tax credit. I won't be purchasing until late summer of 2025. Installing a Victron with Rich Chinese made panels now. Q Cells are already climbing the short list!

Completely agree.
But Deye and their distributors will suffer from the bad PR.

off-topic
Qcells Box says “assembled in the USA”, with a nice flag icon.

And I, for one, would enjoy working on that puzzle myself. Any data yet to work from?

It is an attack on the customer. The customer isn't bound by any agreement between Sol-Ark and Deye.

This is the part I think is most relevant to all the commentary in this thread. I know we all have strong opinions, especially when it comes to privacy, control, etc. I certainly do. We also likely have preferences for certain equipment. I don't think anyone's attacking people who are using Sol-Arks. You may have had it for awhile, long before any of this surfaced and before other options came to market.

What's prompting a lot of the back and forth -- from my perspective -- is that some of the responses are absent any obvious compassion for the people who do not have power and depend on these inverters. Whether they took the risk knowingly and purchased on the 'gray' market or not, completely disabling what could be a person's or family's only source of power is absolutely immoral. Full stop. If you're without power, I doubt you give a rat's ass about contracts, exclusive distribution rights, so on.

I purchased inverters from China (OEM versions of rebadged equipment available in the US, but cheaper, even with shipping). I did that knowing they may not last as long as other inverters and minimal expectation of any support. While I don't expect everyone to be as informed or 'in to' the tech or solar as a hobby, etc. I do expect the inverters to continue to run just as those impacted likely did theirs.

While it could be viewed as mildly commendable that Sol-Ark is offering this discount, I can't imagine why anyone would want to continue using the very same equipment with different badging that likely could suffer the same fate.

Open invitation to anyone here that is impacted, whether you've posted or are just following along, to PM me. I'm happy to give some pointers to alternative solutions, etc. if you're interested, once I know how you're set up. And to be clear, I want nothing more than to help those impacted.
