CHINA kills all non Sol-Ark branded DEYE unit in the USA this morning.

man, you are realy clueless....

a cyber attack means to destroy
they haven't destroyed, they disabled their software that the hardware uses because it breaches their EULA
dude that dog does not bark.... they removed the ability for the unit to be used via what is basically ransomware. some company is going to pay for this. I will take bets that there are enough units in PR that a lawsuit is inbound.

all these were bought through third party sellers, doing grey imports...
If anyone should sue anyone, it would be the buyers suing the seller as they are the only one the buyer has a contract with
While buyers could sue third-party sellers for misrepresentation, the ultimate responsibility lies with DEYE for bricking functional devices. The consumer’s contract with the seller does not absolve DEYE of its accountability for remote actions that render purchased products unusable.

Then again, this action reminded me of Microsoft Windows Genuine Advantage and Microsoft Product Activation. However, not even Microsoft disables the critical functions of its operating system and software. Instead, the OS and software will run in reduced functionality mode. Deye should have follow Microsoft route instead of outright disabling the inverter.

youa re tone deaf... nobody here is going to agree with you on this socialist level bullshit. remember you are talking to freedom loving people not NPC's from the EU.

I would buy a competitor product.
Bingo. If I had one of these, and they shut me down, you bet I'd NEVER EVER EVER buy anything from them ever again.
As it is, I'll never ever buy one after this because they've proven that I can't trust them. Even if it was to stay offline I'll never buy one, this stinks so much.
Even if Sol-Ark has absolutely 0 to do with this, who's to say that Deye OR Sol-Ark don't have the same back door ability on a Sol-Ark model?
And now that it is proven that they CAN shut them down, it means that there is definite potential some bad actor (whether an outside bad guy, or some disgruntled internal employee) could go shut down a bunch of equipment just because they wanted to?
Screw it. Not doing it. Ever. Period.

*hugs Outback Radian again*

I hope you don't get burned on parts or support as the last I heard Outback is out of the market. :(

Can we get a complete list of all the companies selling rebranded (potentially back-doored) Deye inverters?

This is hurting Deye and SolArk enormously.
The only thing new potential buyers need to do is reading this thread and they will decide to select another brand.

They got bought by someone. Going through some recertifications after that is what I was told. I asked Stella Volta and they said they're expecting more stock once that is complete. Whether that's going to be the case or not, I don't know.
Even so, my Radian still cost half the price of a Sol Ark. I almost snagged as second one, and that pair would have beat the ever living snot out of a Sol Ark's output, and would provide some redundancy in case of one going down for whatever reason. Granted, no built-in SCC but whatever.
If I get my homestead property (we came sooooo close recently!), and if they get more Radians available, I'm going to try to nab another one. I'd never have to worry about enough power again. I'd just need more batteries. A lot more. LOL it never ends....

You would probably have to ask Deye for a complete list.
But the two largest are Sunsynk and Sol-Ark.

Everyone needs more batteries

no you are not

Deye builds inverters, and there are 3 official resellers/rebadgers...

Sol-ark( USA/CANADA) , Sunsynk( South Africa, UK ) , Turbo Energy ( Pakistan), DEYE ( rest of the world)

Sol-ark has an exclusive contract for the USA and Canada , and has been putting pressure on Deye to disable the USA/CANADA inverters deye sold under it's own brand, because of declining sales

again , and said this many times...

ISOLATE YOUR INVERTER AND MONITOR INDEPENDANT!
How about Noark (Australia), Celltronic (India), Opalenergy (Singapore), Fusion (South Africa), and Inge (South Africa)?

I have been following the thread and have not seen ANY UK members comment on a bricked Deye - not yet anyway.
If Deye and SunSynk are both approved in UK, maybe they sell side by side - without 300% markup.
@SeaGal - do you know the price spread between same/similar model Deye and Sunsynk in UK - it would be interesting to know.
As @timselectric said, about 3,564 posts ago ;) similar in price. Deye is a bit cheaper than Sunsynk for equivalent model - so like 1450 GBP for the 8kW hybrid vs about 1,600 GBP for the Sunsynk branded one.

You say "maybe they sell side by side"... that would be my understanding from seeing them both advertised over hear and seeing that both brands have inverters with approval to connect to the grid. BUT, if they do officially sell side-by-side, why does the Deye screen-of-death tell UK users to contact Sunsynk. Something doesn't add up to me.

BTW, If Sol Ark were to not be the one who asked Deye to do this, Would they sue a heck out of Deye for ruining their product line (marketing wise)?

It probably says that because they are considering doing that to uk users too. If I was a uk user I would get that sucker offline asap.

Remember when Bud Light's (former) Head of Marketing called their own customers a bunch of frat boys?
And then used a LGTBQ+ influencer to promote the brand.

That went viral and knocked a few billion off their sales and almost destroyed their brand. Deye might have something like that incoming after their little ransomware attack against their own customers.

Can we get a complete list of all the companies selling rebranded (potentially back-doored) Deye inverters?
  • Deye
  • Sunsynk - UK
  • Sol-Ark - Plano Texas - Their inverters look different but the screen and UI look like Deye
  • Noark - Australia
  • Celltronic - India
  • Opalenergy - Singapore, SE Asia
  • Fusion - South Africa
  • Inge - South Africa
  • Turbo Energy - Pakistan
Who am I missing?

The best option has always been to not connect the equipment to the internet.
They can't attack it, if they don't have access to it.
I'm skeptical.

With the Chinese government's involvement in everything produced in China, our government/governmental news agencies reporting of Chinese hacking on US soil, and the fact that China is not our friend, I bet many forms of electronics come from the factory with some kind of backdoor. Can one iot talk to another? Can a kill code be hidden in an update, via memory stick? The Iran nuclear program was sabotaged and they were air gapped.

Anything is possible.
But we shouldn't make it easy for them.
