CHINA kills all non Sol-Ark branded DEYE unit in the USA this morning.

Heck I recall when they encrypted satellite TV signals requiring a decoding box and monthly payments. Back in the 80's.

Haha, I remember building a decoding box for my uncle back in those days... the "encryption" was nothing more than they supressed or inverted the colorburst sync signal so it invereted the color and lost vertical and horizontal hold.... the box I bought as a set of components and a circuit board locked onto the vertical hold signal and added back in the colorburst....

If you contract a company to build a thing for you, then that company starts selling that same thing with their own name on it for less than you sell your version, would you be OK with that?

Every company in history that has contracted out mfg to the far east - has had the same thing happen.

I can't be held responsible for a contract YOU sign.
No you won’t be sued but you won’t be able to use the product denied operation here by that contract.

Easier doesn't mean allowed.

Can’t speak to the legality of how they did it but it’s done.
Who’s gonna sue them to challenge it?
How far do you think that will get?

Over the air

Thanks.

All Victron OTA updates can be opted out of (though victronconnect bugs you like hell to do so on bluetooth devices), and there are means of applying updates manually to all devices.

If your goal is to NEVER have an OTA update from Victron and apply all updates manually, you have that option.

To update my Rosie or hawkes bay SCC, I have to use an android app which connects to the mngp2 via Bluetooth to upload the firmware. But apart from that process, it's completely offline, mngp2 connects via cat5 and talks canbus.
But you still download the file for the manufacturer. There just is no other way to do it.

Yes. But unless the firmware contains a remote kill file placed there by Midnite, it's free from any possibility of remote bricking until a 5 digit code is installed like we are seeing with the Deyes.

True but you still have to download the file from them as you would for any manufacturer.

Wanna bet nobody buys them now?
I'd buy one without thinking twice if I knew it wasn't locked, hell I bet they will be even cheaper after this.

I haven't done a single firmware update on any of my AIOs or BMS's and they have never had a chance to phone home (unless there is a backdoor through SA).

I don't see that as the same as an OTA update.

There hasn't been a single time I *NEEDED* to update to maintain functionality. The only reason I have updated is because they keep adding new features that I want. :)

Roll them bones!!!

I still wonder if all this real. It's almost hard for me to believe a company would not realize they were committing business suicide. An AI generated troll screen is just about easier to believe.
How is this business suicide? It does not affect genuine Sol-Ark users, and the grey market buyers have already proven they won't buy Sol-Ark.
