i recently purchased a solar powered water pump for my garden but i cant seem to get it to turn the pump on. The manual is difficult to understand so im not sure if im doing something wrong or if it is the controller. Any suggestions?

Any way to test the pump directly? Looks like the system requires a battery, so it may be possible to test the pump from the battery directly (check pump specs on the label). If so, at least you would know if the pump works. If it works from battery, it is likely a matter of figuring out how to make the controller turn it on.

Looks like the rightmost button will turn the pump on and off. May have to hold it down for a second.

Make sure to follow the instructions regarding connecting the battery first. The controller has to see that first, and it will likely help to regulate the voltage. Panel first could fry things.

Looks like it is not an expensive unit, so don't expect too much. Good luck with the troubleshooting.

Can i replace that cheap controller with a different one and still use the same battery box/pump/panel?

It's possible, but would take some research. Seems it would be worth troubleshooting the one you have first.

Any chance to do some testing? If it is a 12v pump, it should run straight from the battery.

Were you able to try pressing that rightmost button on the controller to see if it will turn on manually?

yes i tried that with no change so i was thinking maybe the controller was bad although it could be the pump. Im going to try playing wwith it a bit more and see if i can figure out the issue
