Hi,

On my RV I already have a BMV 700 (It has a non-smart shunt) installed with lead acid batteries.

Now I have upgraded to lithium batteries and have a Cerbo GX now. How should I connect the shunt to Cerbo GX? Should I connect the shunt directly to Cerbo, or should I connect the BMV display (the round unit) to Cerbo GX?

Thanks!

I think in this case, you will use the Ve.direct to Ve.direct and/or the Ve.direct to USB cable. My shunts are the bluetooth ones and I have mine direct connected using the cabling.

As K7TH said it wants a V-direct cable available even at Amazon ...There are two advantages: The cerbo considers the shunt as main device for calculating energy( you need to adjust this on the cerbo console) the second is,that firmware updates get recognised and done easily by the cerbo,as for all victron equipment.Best regards Frank

Thanks for the replies. For BMV 700, using VE.direct cable means that Cerbo GX need to be connected to the monitor (or head unit, or whatever you call it, the round thing), instead of the shunt itself? On the shunt, there is only a Cat5E type of socket.

Thanks!

Of course You must connect Cerbo GX to BMV 700 monitor (a.k.a. "main unit") by VE.Direct to VE.Direct cable, because it is the one providing the data.
The shunt in case of BMV 700 is only a resistor making the voltage difference, for "main unit" to process it and to give the data further.

Make sure delete smart network if you have a victron charger and enable dvcc - voltage and current sharing.

Is there any functionality/monitoring difference between using BMV-700 (which uses a non-smart shunt) vs using a smart shunt when they are connected to Cerbo GX? I.e.
1. Use BMV-700 and connect its monitor to Cerbo GX via VE.direct cable
2. Use a Victron smart shunt and connect it directly to Cerbo GX?

I am asking about the difference when you are trying to view data/change settings directly from Cerbo GX/Touch Screen. I known that the smart shunt itself would allow you to connect to it directly via Bluetooth.

After connecting either of them to Cerbo GX, will the battery SOC be displayed on the main page? I.e. the page shows all components and show the power flow to/from external AC to Inverter/Charger and to/from battery?

Thanks!

No differences that I know of when connected via ve direct to cerbo. If there was no cerbo the bmv712 is preferred due to relay. I don't think the 700 has mid point monitoring or temp sensor input if that matters.

Either should show soc in vrm when set to battery monitor role (versus dc energy meter role)
