Correct way to upgrade EG4 Gridboss/Flexboss/Dongle Firmware?

I've seen bits of discussion around this but I couldn't find a definitive answer. What's the best way to go about upgrading the firmware on a Gridboss + Flexboss + the dongles without interrupting the backup loads on the Gridboss? I've seen people mention losing their loads when doing things in various ways.

I just got mine working but they don't run the latest firmware and I know that they fixed issues related to grid instability and possibly temperature.

If I just have to bite the bullet and lose my loads then I'm still interested in recommendations about how to go about it for the safest/smoothest experience.

Just a guess: put the gridboss in bypass mode (grid only). It may hold that through the firmware reboot.
