I was going to build my own brushless motor. But I have searched the interwebs for more hours than I will admit to. None of the marine motors or props or combinations thereof, have any thrust data. I don't get it. Those things get pricey quick. So I am not inclined to spend a bunch of money for something that doesn't work. But if you find something that works, post it.
Well, I ran across these Haswing brushless motors that are affordable and good quality(hopefully). I ordered the 12v "Protruar 1.0" model. Haven't tested it out yet, but it'll hopefully be a pretty good upgrade in speed and efficiency. Also, I scored some new carbon fiber props. Super thin and lightweight. Come on summertime!

The Haswing and Protruar have the ESC potted into the the foot with the motor. Not a build that I am interested in. I like my kayak remote control set up. You can't do that if you can't replace the ESC.
But (I will assume) those companies put a lot of R&D into prop testing. Hitting the jack pot with a handful of aftermarket props is.... slim to none
