Curtis Stone…

Bad idea! His poor wife must be terrified!
If anything ever happened to him (or even if he just gets the flu for a week) she'd have to take over and there's a lot of moving parts.
Mebbe I'm just a minimalist at heart but life woulda been so much simpler if they'd just stayed in Kelowna.
And I don't get how he's free when his family is totally dependent on this overly-complicated Rube Goldberg system. Sure it's a fun hobby and keeps him busy and gives him lots to talk about but Sheesh! There are limits!

RubeGoldberg system?

It’s about as simple as it can get.

He did spend more than me but considering he’s on top of a mountain it would have cost a bit to get Grid power there I’m guessing.

He is generating his own power and is not dependent on anyone for it.
Seems free to me.

What are you using to power your house?

That guy lost his **** during covid and bit the hand that had been feeding him.

Specifically, he made his money selling people on his concept of urban farming, even calling himself The Urban Farmer. Then covid hit and he put out some videos calling Urban people worthless pieces of **** and he said he was never going back to being an Urban farmer.

To be perfectly clear, he was just a snake oil salesman selling books to urbanites, now he's a snake oil salesman known for telling his customers that they are worthless pieces of crap.

Do yourself a favor and skip learning about anything this loser has to sell ya.

Seems like he had some kind of prepper wake up call after a while. I watched many of his live chats and he seemed to become more aware of the reality of where things are going. I think allot of the pro-city/socialist types started to attach him and he had enough. He also spoke about how the cities are not the place to be and some people don't want to hear it so they attack instead of learning the truth. It would be tough being a prepper up there in Canada. The urban farmer system does work pretty good. I'm going to be using allot of it from what I could find on his free vidoes and others.

I feel more specifically that he sold snakeoil to urbanites, then he lost his mind and started calling all of his customers worthless idiots. It seems clear that he always thought that, that's just the group he had been fleecing at the time. Now he's decided that the Off grid folks are primed for being fleeced. Just know that some day he's going to have a few too many beers and once again he's going to let loose on the Off Grid people he's now relying on for a living.
In short beware snakeoil salesmen. And when they bend over backwards to tell you they're snakeoil salesmen, believe them.

Well by definition snake oil doesn't work. His system he sold (not his 100%) is pretty dang good from what I see from similar setups. What his intentions for seller are I could not tell you but I would not call it snake oil. He is pretty smart and is doing good getting away from cities. Cities are going to be really bad places in the future, especially the 15 minute cities being built in the deserts. No one has a car and your surrounded by desert? No thanks.

Did you buy any of his system? I would be curious if you used it or could comment on any of it.

No, I'm not an urbanite and his urban gardening stuff was sold to people who didn't know better.

But some city folk loved the guy before he came clean with them

I didn’t see him selling anything but could have missed it.

Was just admiring his solar setup.

That wouldn't be interesting to me.
I do my gardening in the produce section.

He made his living selling books telling inner city people that they could run CSA programs growing on abandoned lots in the ghettos.

No doubt he's about to come out with a book fleecing the most vulnerable in the prepper community too.

Is this guy on this forum?

I like this guy’s no nonsense approach.

I thought the setup looked familiar, I had seen this video prior.

I don't take people talking about solar seriously when they install PV in a heavy snow area close to the ground. Get that stuff off the ground unless you like moving snow. Solar array finished.jpg

If one expands the video description below the video on Youtube, you will find this:

"▶️ FREE 7-Day Trial to FromTheField.TV: “It’s Like NETFLIX For Small-Scale Farmers” → http://freetrial.ftf.tv"

He is selling something........

Ahh Maybe but I ain’t buying. Was just looking at his system.

Kinda looks like an old Drive in movie screen.?

But if it's too high the wind will catch it so it's a trade-off.

One has to ask, just where is the money coming from?

I see excavators, large solar array, fairly large new house. I'm sure there is more. Either he has a very accommodating lender (doubtful) or he has an income stream that can support servicing a high amount of debt or he won the lottery and didn't tell anyone.

I take number 2, then it just becomes a case of where does the income come from if he is busy cleaning out the chicken coop?

Awful lot of assumptions there but yes he has some money tied up in stuff.

Where did it come from?

Who’s to say.

This is my array. I'm not shoveling snow away from it. If you watch the video in the first post, the snow is already above the bottom of his array in some places. My array is engineered for wind, the mount supplier gave me the report before purchase. It costs more to bore a hole deep and cement in poles and the poles aren't cheap either.

But I'm not shoveling the snow away.......
