Daly BMS is toast.

Owned a Daly Smart 500a BMS w Bluetooth for 1 year.
Often had to resort to “jumping” to turn on this BMS.
Effective to disconnect loads at over/under voltage.
Bluetooth quit functioning about 6mo ago while I was “jumping” the BMS and sales support confirmed via engineering (on Alibaba.com) that some pintails were not carrying electrical charge to BT dongle, so I started using SinoWealth Software to control the BMS.
Did not pass 500a through it at any point, and BMS failed to turn on permanently about a month ago. Final insult was running a hair dryer for >1min.
I cannot overstate how my early affection for the BT and form factor has curdled into an ugly hatred for this BMS.
I do hate the Chargery more, bc it failed to protect my first cells ever, taking me from a 48v 400ah battery down to my current setup, a 12v 800ah battery with NO BMS.

I am looking for a new BMS if anyone has a favorite.
This Daly 500a “BMS” is looking for a new home.

So how exactly did the Chargery fail to protect your cells? I cannot recall seeing any threads or discussions about the Chargery not working correctly. I have 2 Chargery's so I am VERY interested in any problems.

Mine did not disconnect the load at overdischarge voltage setting.
It worked until it didn’t, perhaps for a year?
I used new stock Nissan Leaf relays ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I also could never get my chargery to measure/report cell voltage accurately/precisely. Vendor on eBay admitted all of his were having identical issues and he sent me a replacement for free.
Free replacement had same issues, vendor told me he would get a new lot and send me a new one, but PayPal dispute period ended and so did my communications with vendor, sadly.
I have two chargerys of this style that I don’t use since I dropped from a 48v to a 12v system.

Here’s a thread discussing issues but idk if they are similar to mine

Probably one of the "DIY" medical use one's. Im looking for a 150a BMS right now. Particularly with low temp protection but it aint looking like a competitive space. All similar priced i mean, so no cheap way out. lol. Cant decide myself. But those look the best and Will suggest em. So ima just listen to someone with more experience than me. lol.

Though im also just thinkin about gettin a Daly 150a. (non smart) I dont really need low temp protection. As i'll just undo the ignition wire on the DC to DC charger and turn it off if/when i'm under 32 inside.

i cansay that the 48 volt versions do indeed shut down due to temperature parameters... often higher than I would prefer but still they shut off. mine are set at 5 deg Celsius but they vary from 3 degree to 7 degree depending upon unit. biggest complaint ihave is that they are do not shut off at the same temp no matter the setting. the NTC is so cheap that it varies from unt to unit by up to 3 degrees centirgrade.

I've had a JBD 150a, and two JBD 120a running for over a year, and they have been great. Might be worth checking them out.

JBD piss poor passive balancing current, JK has nice and meaty 2A active balancing.

Don’t think JK have anything in the 500A ratings, but if you’re looking at a 48v system do you need 500a?

set a word in ur bt module to disable bt sleep, the word is 65535,password 123456
My Daly had this setting and Bluetooth connection was never any problem, in fact best Bluetooth I’ve used better than Xantrex or Schneider!

About my 500a BMS:

I used a wire to jump the Daly because it would not turn on otherwise, if you look back you can see many posts about this issue and about others who could not get the Daly to startup any other way.

My question is about 500a BMS only: what failure rates have you seen with them?
I believe my 500a BMS was never capable of current over 200a, it often shut down when my 3000w generator surged. Then I could not get it to start unless I got out power supply. ?

Today I am speaking to your colleague in China about buying a 250a or 500a Daly BMS but they have no information on failure rates, and they assure me 500a discharge/250a charge is within specification.
1) what are failure rates of 500a BMS
2) Do you have any videos/tutorials for Daly BMS turning on without light board?
3) any videos of 500a BMS passing 500a current?
