Deye hybrid setup for my widow

Hi,
Unfortunately I have been diagnosed with terminal liver cancer and probably don’t have very long to live at all.
Not long ago, my wife and I moved house which has an 8000W Deye hybrid inverter, 6000W in panels and 9,6 KWH in two batteries.
I myself only have very basic knowledge about solar systems and I haven’t really had the energy to see how our system works.
My wife has no knowledge whatsoever and we would really like to be able to leave the solar running with as little interference as possible, i.e. have a system that just takes care of itself.
We have too many panels for our needs, so would like to run the house during the day using the sun, while also charging the batteries to be used when the sun has gone down. I have tested here that some nights we get by without using the grid, but the batteries are at 20 or 30% in the morning, so I don’t know if it’s a good idea to discharge them so much during the night.
We also don’t want to send energy back to the grid and don’t have cheaper energy rates at night.
I was hoping someone could help me to use the right settings so our house can run autonomously without my wife having to do anything. I have looked for someone in my area to help but no one seems to know much about Deye inverters.
I’m pretty scared of having to leave her and running into problems or to be left in the dark.
Any suggestions would be really appreciated, so thanks in advance.

Sorry to hear about your medical condition.
The batteries can discharge down to 20% without any issues.
There are Six Time Of Use setting (TOU) in the Menu that allows you to set how you want the Inverter to Work during the day and night. They are basically programs for different time slots that tell the Inverter if it should use battery Power or Grid Power or if it should sell back power or charge the batteries from the Grid.
Each one is triggered by the Time of day you set and the SOC % level of the battery.

For example if you want the battery to power the house using up to 4Kw of battery power at 6pm but only do it if the battery is above 90% then it can do that or it can be told not to use the Battery at all for powering the house if you set it to 100%
You can also use a check box for the TOU slot to tell the Inverter to charge the battery using the Grid if it is below a certain level at a specific time of the day or night.

I don't own a Deye Inverter, I have a Sol-Ark which is mostly the same but has differences in the Firmware and Menus.
Maybe one of the resident Deye experts like @houseofancients can help you further with Deye Inverter Screen Shots.

Thank you very much for your kind reply Robby.
I really don’t know how much time I have left here, so I would like to get something set up for her within a month or so.
What I had in in mind is to use the panels to run the house and recharge the battery during the day, and if the battery isn’t full when the sun goes down, have the give it an extra charge until around 90% SOC so the battery can be used during the night until the morning, only for the grid to take over if there’s no sun or the battery reaches 10% or so. Hopefully that won’t be necessary very often and she can continue to power the how and recharge the battery when the sun comes up.
Judging by what you wrote, I’m think this should be possible if I can work out how to do the settings.
BTW, do you have any idea if there’s an easy way to switch between battery and grid without having to go too deep into the settings?
Our old house used to have a cheap Growatt inverter, and it was quite useful to switch to grid or battery easily.
Maybe I have just been watching too many Deye inverter videos on Youtube and am finding the task ahead quite daunting!
Everyone seems to say these inverters are easy to set up and to work with, but sometimes I think there’s too much information, and get scared to do anything wrong, and not have it ready in time.
Anyway, thanks again for your reply, it is really appreciated.
Have a good weekend!

Did you consider just hooking up to the grid?
That's the easiest for her situation.

Yes, she can always switch to the grid. There’s a separate switch for that. But money will be tighter after I’m gone, and it would be a shame if not to use the equipment already installed and have lower energy costs per month.

Yes that is easy to do.
Are you programming it from the LCD or using an App or the web interface?
Can you post a shot of your daily power graph and the TOU slots from the software?

How easy is easy?
You can go into the software and do that in the Menus fairly easily, but there is no one button that you can press to make that happen. The only really easy way is by her just throwing the manual bypass switch.

Deye is kind of made to be Automatic and Set and Forget system put in by an installer and the end user never thinks about it. The Growatts were pretty much for people who wanted to save some money and were willing to play around with the system.

There is a learning curve but once you figure out how to do one thing in like the TOU slots the others are easy to setup.

Thanks you to.

Have a sunsynk , yet another version of the same inverter, but like Robby's sol-ark a custom Gui with slightly different menu's

Basically you've been given good info already on how to setup Time of Use, and yes this class of inverters are basically set and forget, and to add in a completely different league to growatt and many others in stability and features

What might be a consideration is adding a battery, so it will make it surely overnight, and maybe even last to cover a cloudy day

Switching from and to grid is fully automatically done by the inverter, and shouldn't need any manual intervention

If you have other specific concerns, please post, there are many here with sol-ark's , deye's and sunsynk's that should be able to answer any questions and sooth any worries you may have..

On a side note, I wish you many many more days, and I hope you find a way to Cope with the cancer..
Lost my parents to it at a very young age, so know the impact of what you're going through , so wish you and your family all the strength in the world

I will be using the lcd screen as I haven’t got the app installed yet. I also would gladly send you a screenshot, but that would be in a few weeks. I am out of town at the moment having some treatment but hopefully be back home in a couple of weeks.
Thankfully my mind has been put to rest a little reading messages from you and some others and the task seems to be less daunting than I thought at first.
Maybe a silly question, but could you tell me what TOU slots are, or did I miss something?

Yes, I have learned a lot here already from several members and have less fear of trying to set this up in a few weeks. Thanks again to everyone. What you said about getting an extra battery does make a lot of sense. I’m quite sure I can recharge an extra battery on most days, and it will just a bit more peace of mind to have some extra capacity at night.

I’m sorry to hear you lost your parents so early to this awful disease. It really does impact everyone around you in all kind of ways.
I will be needing all the strength I can get the next few months, but will continue to fight as long as I can.
Thanks again for all the help and support!

TOU is Time of Use.
