Did I get scammed? qr codes all go nowhere

Did I get scammed, ALL my QR codes go nowhere??

Do legitimate name-brand cells have QR codes that actually GO somewhere?

I was looking for 4 more 280 cells, and wherever I looked they were sold out...
So as a last resort I just bought 4 more 280 supposed "EVE" cells from (cringe) eBay...

I checked the 4 QR codes, and they all go nowhere, only show the same long number that is printed
on the QR code itself. I took pics of them, and zooming in they looked like a pretty poor print...

For a comparison, I also checked the ones I had bought earlier from a reputable seller, and they too go nowhere...
(although they do work well)

Is this just the typical Chinese quality I should expect, or should I be able to get actual information on the cell?

I was suspicious to start with since the labels on the sides of these batteries have no name brand, just a generic 280ah lifepo4....

Thanks for your thoughts, I appreciate it !

Here are a couple pics

Those are not actually QR codes, as in URL links to some web or app page. They are just a data matrix that allows the encoded info about the cell to be machine readable. There are apps that you can run on your phone that can read the data matrix and decode it to what type of cell, what factory, date of manufacture, etc.

you have them, might as well get them charged and see if they're good. Do they look ok? Any swelling out of the ordinary?

2023, isn’t that the first or second version of 280k?

Hope you don’t plan on needing every Ah at high C discharge rates.

How much yo pay for them?

Isn’t there that global url that you can paste through codes into?

Yes, those are QR codes, which can encode any data, not just a URL. Data Matrix is a different type of code that can also encode any type of data. Some cell manufacturers use Data Matrix instead of QR.

If the terminals aren't octogonal then they would be v1 or v2.

Close! Called Gobel:

THANKS to all of you for the info I really appreciate it!!

The cells appear to be fine, and the terminals are just like the ones in Brucey's post above, so that makes them V3?
Brucey does your screenshot say it's a B-grade cell? The eBay listing said
Grade
Grade A & Brand New with Original QR Code

Tax & all delivered was $505... I paid $70/cell in Jan but those days seem to be gone, at least for now, and I figured
the longer I waited the shorter the supply (and higher the prices) would become.

I downloaded that APKPure app (android), and all I got was an app that wanted me to download a ton of other apps
and I could not find the Lifepo scanner you used...

I think it's that pesky 10% rule kicking in again...
if I'm not at least 10% smarter than the tech I'm trying to use it doesn't work... Is there something that I missed?

I will use the Gobel website you linked Fuzzmunky, Thanks!!

post pictures of the terminals.

The QR code doesn’t support the ability of having octagon of ver3

In case I need to go back to the seller, here are the other 3 QR codes. Would Brucey or someone else please
post a screenshot like Brucey did above that I can show the seller? Thank you!

These are 2 codes from my first batch in January... the gobel website decoder says CODE IS WRONG, LENGTH IS RIGHT... Does that mean these are just not in the database, or are these cells questionable?

Anybody? Are these in fact "B" grade cells? I paid for "brand new grade A cells", so if anyone can please give some insight, maybe I can go back & negotiate a better deal with the seller while there is still time, but I need proof to be able to do that.

Also, as 740GLE said, if the QR code doesn't support the ability of these cells to have the octagon terminals, that creates even more question about what I ended up with since I DO have them...

Thank you very much!!

I mean if they are fake QR codes of octagon terminals (ver 3) why would they chose such old dates?

As far as A B or Z grade cells.

You bought them on eBay, so much junk moves through eBay, assume they are low grade. I’d say test the capacity as the only means of proving if you’re happy with them.

Thank you everyone, Do any of you know if that "cell type Lifepo4 (B)" in the screen shot above means it's a grade B cell?

Capacity testing won't affect my ability to go back to the seller, only something concrete that I can show them that proves they are not grade A cells... If I know I can't prove anything, then I'm stuck with them & I'll start building cables & hooking them up, I just want my ducks in a row first... if you know what I mean.

I'm in an RV so I don't have a work area or a convenient way of setting them up to test, before they are all assembled & put in the battery compartment.

No it does not, in the GB/T34014 Chinese Standard (the QR code standard) the letter B in the 5th position indicates that the cell is of the Lithium Iron Phosphate chemistry. Some others for example, E is Nickel Cobalt Manganese Lithium Ion, Z is other, typically seen on Sodium Ion cells, G is Lithium Titanite Oxide. The letter has nothing to do with the grade of the cell at all.

In fact there is no way to tell if a cell is grade B from the QR code alone, as it just provides information on where and when the cell was made. Unless the code is the wrong one for the cell it is on or has been marked/defaced, it indicates nothing on the cell. Today the grey market resellers have gotten good at putting proper replacement qr codes on cells that were factory rejects so the codes are really not reliable indicators of whether or not the cells are "grade A".

Not in the database, There are no public repository of the codes. All the various decoders have to work hard to build their own list of verified cell models and manufacturer id's for the decoders to work.

Yes 0FN is AESC Envision, 36 is their 280Ah cell,

Also as for the the app not being able to scan the codes, that's just qr being hard to read in general, the black print doesn't contrast well with the silver case and makes it very hard to pick up.

Also the QR code app got DMCA'd that's why you couldn't find it, no its not mine, I just contribute to the cell database for it

thank you VERY much ZC, I understand what you're saying about the 5th digit, but I was referring to the 3rd line down in Brucey's screenshot where it says cell type, and to the right Lifepo2 with a (B) after it. That was the "B" I was referring to. I don't know if it means grade B or not, that's all I was asking. I just thought IF IT DID mean grade B, then I have an obvious reason to go back to the seller...

Would you happen to know?

In the meantime I'm off to build cables & get it hooked up & charging :))
Thanks!

Just to clarify, the last 2 QRs I uploaded were the Envision cells from my earlier batch, (Thank you Fuzzmunky) now I am referring to the latest set of cells I just purchased that are the QRs in the previous posts.

The third line down in the app screen shot is the 5th digit of the qr code

The first Line consists of the Manufacturer ID which makes up the first three digits of the qr code
The second Line lists the type of product it is, C for Cell, M for module, P for pack, The app doesn't list the letter next to it here, this is the fourth character in the code
The third line is the chemistry as we discussed which is the fifth character
The forth line is the Product ID for the cell from that manufacturer, these are not unique across brands, For EVE a 76 indicates the cell is a LF280K

A more zoomed out screenshot for reference where you can see the whole code at the bottom
