Hi , I have just ordered 16 x EVE MB31 cells for an offgrid installation. I am looking at the various 48V DIY kiys from SEPLOS, EEL , Gobel etc. They mostly seem to be desigend for 280 or 304 AH cells. As far as i can tell the cells are same dimensions and terminal spacing, can i use a 280 or 304 AH kit for my 314 AH cells.
Thanks in advance

Ask Amy about battery cases for your cells - https://szluyuan.en.alibaba.com/contactinfo.html?spm=a2700.shop_index.88.25.764b521ajRTXND

Check out Andy's off grid garage he has reviewed just about every DIY battery box on the market here's a link

You could have saved a pile of cash, if you had bought all the cells,m case & BMS from one vendor who could then bundle the small bits into the boxes and reduce the Per Box Fees & Rates. There are fees for every box, then the S&H + extras for every order. That can add up Extremely fast when buying from separate dealers.

There are 16S case kits ranging from $175 USD up to $700 USD (yeah, pretty shocking yet some get suckered)
Note that some will include a BMS etc therefore that is reflected in the cost of the "kit".
Depending on "Style" of case, that can also affect the cost, ie Floor Standing, Wall Mountable, Rack or Shelf Style etc.

Best Bank per buck for 16S Standard Shelf Case (too heavy for racks) is available here.
NB: Get a proper quote with S&H via a Chat/Messenger session, the S&H Guessometers really suck !

You need to select the BMS type you are choosing for the display or not etc....
FYI: Currently we do NOT RECOMMEND JK-BMS-Inverter Edition due to the numerous flaws, issues and absolute lack of Tech Support. They do work fine in Open-Loop systems that do not have to interact with an AIO but are terribly troublesome in Closed-Loop. Unfortuinately I cannot suggest or recomewnd an alternate at this time.

I think the JK inverter BMS is still pretty ok (maybe say the best at the moment?) when using the SOC-fixer-solution and just programming your setup to 100% charge once a week or 2...

Watch this video and pay attention don't miss any of it there is a ton of good information.

One reason I love Andy is anything he talks about is in such great detail and he does an excellent job of explaining things who what where when and why.

So make sure you save it or bookmark it so you can watch it again later.

I think I have seen all the videos from Andy already :) Is there anything in special you want to point out in this video?

It's all pretty much good information I suggest you just pay closer attention. 🤯

We share this content for all not just for you. Just because you're smarter than the rest of us doesn't mean some of us aren't open minded enough to learn something new, different, better, ect.

You should try being a little less selfish others appreciate it. ;) Who knows you may even get a little satisfaction from helping someone else and not expecting something in return.

Good luck enjoy your dinner. 🍿

I am here to learn, otherwise I was not reading on this forum if I already knew everything. I am new to the topic and only have general dc electrics knowledge. Being selfish was not the intention, sorry if this was your observation... Was this your conclusion after a single post of me an hours ago?

As you quoted me and replied to me, I had the impression you wanted to point out something to me regarding the video, thats why I asked ;)

And I am trying to help others also, as I have the suggestion to try the soc-fixer and plan a biweekly full charge in case somebody has the JKbms and canbus comms :)

There is a Thread with 23K+ Views & 650+ msgs discussing the issues with JK and Andy is a tiny part and "not all there" when it comes to this. Look in that thread to know what is going on and has been for quite a while.

I bought an early Gobel battery box with MB30 cells. I was reasonably impressed with it, although at the time, it did not come with instructions on how to assemble it (since fixed)..Andy's video helped and I had none of the problems Andy had. He must have gotten an early prototype. I got it with the PACE PC200 BMS which has worked out fine and has lots of features. I am about to buy another box, but with MB31 cells. I am also adding a 4A balancer. Including the Pace BMS and balancer, the battery box came to $637. Cells are $75 with some discounts. Of course, shipping from China is not cheap.
I recommend going through ellie@gobelpower.com

I purchased Luyuan DIY Battery Box/Case for JK Inverter BMS for 16S 48V 8S2P 280AH 304AH Battery Pack with compression battery device and it finally arrived at my place after a long freighter ride ;) . I also purchased my batteries from Ali Express from the Diankaishou factory store, which has been the opposite of express :p ordered on 9/20/2024, status now shipped with a ETA of 11/25/2024. Buying from China sure does text your patience! lol

Also looking at battery box kits for 16S MB31 cells. Happy to assemble myself. Like the idea that everything is provided. However many of the DIY Battery box kits dont have fuses or circuit breakers. The newer EEL boxes have a single pole 250A CHCYZO but the quality looks doubtful at <$50 on aliexpress. Bought all my previous builds from Luyuan and been happy. But this time I want a vertical box on wheels. It would be quite difficult to retrofit a circuit breaker/fuse to a DIY Kit Box. How others getting around this issue when setting up their 16S DIY kit boxes?

My Gobel DIY box has a beefy 250A circuit breaker, but no fuse. I think there is enough room inside to install a small (2.75") Class T fuse. When my second box arrives next month I may try to incorporate a fuse, either internally or externally. It is doubtful I will ever draw more than 150A, but fuses are used for catastrophic failures, so I am unsure what size fuse to use. Seems to me that it should be rated more than the circuit breaker. Comments?

I agree the ideal setup for a DIY box would be an internal fuse plus an MCCB that can be used as a switch. @caesarv what brand is your 250A Gobel box breaker? There seems to some AliExpress MCCBs that go under various names including CHCYZO. There is no spec sheets available. EEL battery in their latest V5 DIY box have removed the circuit breaker and put in a fuse ?ANL 125V 250A fuse with a ceramic fuse holder. You see it in this assembly video at about 2:00 min
In the comments EEL rep says they did this because the MCCB 250A used heated up with moderate amps. There are some more expensive MCCBs such as NOARK and BENY that may do a better job that negate the need for an internal fuse. I see Apexium boxes have a flat internal fuse 80V 400A that can be had for about $20 US on AliExpress. www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006164021539.html. - now on special for US$11.04 for fuse and base as of 10th Dec 24 AEST (edit corrected youtube link and updated fuse price)

Oclular,
That link does not work.
I do not want to open my current battery box to look at the MCCB as this would be a pain right now. My new battery box and batteries have just arrived at the Long Beach Harbor, so hopefully it will arrive within a week or so. I will check it out then.
I will say that I have not noticed any unusual heating of the MCCB with 100A of load. I recently bought a IR camera and will try to take a picture of it under load once I have it open. I will also measure the voltage across it to see how much power it is dissipating.

I think I have room in the box to install a Class T fuse...even though it would be a real pain if I ever had to replace it. Still not sure if the fuse rating should be greater than or less than the 250A rating of the MCCB.
I am also going to install one of those tiny hot aerosol fire extinguisher modules in both boxes...just in case.

With regard to the MCCB heating up, I charged the battery at 100A for about a half hour and then took an IR picture. While the cable was slightly warm, the MCCB itself barely registered as being warm. I did not open the box to see the MCCB housing itself, but if the handle is cool, I doubt the housing is all that warm.
