I picked up a 3/16" aluminum plate and one of those RV 12v water tank flat silicon heater pads.

I am trying to figure out the best way to activate it.
I think it will be most needed after a long night of freezing temperatures in the mountains.

I have a few of ideas but I am sure this has long been solved by someone.
I am not sure how much damage occurs using a frozen LifePo4 battery to heat itself.

1) Hook it to my starter battery in the morning until it warms up.
2) Use some kind of a digital themostat device to activate it when it gets too cold, but then the LIFEPo4 battery runs all night at a 3.5A draw. Not the end of the world.
3) Wait for the sun to rise and run it off a solar panel

Either way, I probably need to unsulate my batter box.

check out the "Harsh Environment" sub forum here, you may find lots of information there.

Here's how I did it.
