Do a "real life" test with a GFCI outlet?

So i got some GFCI outlets, i would like to test them just for science, curiosity and peace of mind.




But not sure on how to try them, as i just need 10mA to make them trip.. maybe something like this?:



Or im making this too difficult?, any easier / safer routes?.

That will work, it should detect the 10mA of unbalance current and trip it. I use 15K to test the custom design GFCI I made for our power products.
Does your GFCI outlet have the test button?

That's what I was going to suggest. I've had one of those for years. Works good. I think I got mine from Home Depot.

Absolutely. Not only will it test the outlet, but also any downstream outlets that are supposed to be protected by the GFI. Very inexpensive, available anywhere.

Thanks for the confirmation... they have a test button but i would like to see it work with a more practical test
