Hi All,
Have recently installed solar 5400w PV array with Growatt SPF 5000 ES inverter. System has been running well for 2 weeks without batteries.

Now looking for some battery storage. I live in Thailand so options are limited. But looking for a power wall at a reasonable price. Ones without BMS communication are considerably cheaper. Looking at Felicity Solar LPBR-48300 15KWH cost just under USD$2000 but no communication ports. Felicity solar do make Batteries with BMS communication but was advised by Growatt that Felicity solar Batteries BMS communication is not supported but can be used with manual settings.

Do I need BMS communication? Pros and cons?

Thanks
Nick

It's not needed. You program the Growatt to operate within the limits of your battery/BMS voltage ranges.

The vast majority of Growatt installations don't have an interface between the BMS and Growatt.

Pros - better control
Cons - limited number of batteries that are compatible and typically more expensive.
